5 Brutally Honest Expectations From Udta Punjab

5 Brutally Honest Expectations From Udta Punjab

If Udta Punjab wasn’t the most anticipated movie when the year began, it is now.

Honestly, a simple trailer was enough to get us excited. It had a brilliant ensemble, there was killer soundtrack in the background, and the theme looked something Bollywood hadn’t ever tackled with that kind of purpose.

But because of the absurd number of controversies – literally, a crazy amount – it has got tangled with before its release, the film is hot on everybody’s radar. And with that kind of attention, there comes a lot of expectations.

Here are five brutally honest ones:

    It won’t be a letdown.

Let’s get this out of the way: Udta Punjab won’t be one of those highly anticipated movies that are incredibly bad (read: Saawariya, Don 2). From a director who has previously made wonderful films like Ishqiya and Dedh Ishqiya, to a cast that is one of the most unique and boldest the industry has ever assembled, to a theme that is both topical and intriguing… the film basically has too much in its locker to fail.

Expect there to be gaalis, lots and lots of @$%^@% gaalis.

One of the first complaints Censor Board had – in what turned out to be a long list of them – was that the film had too many expletives. And, frankly, we believe them. But given the creativity that the film is blessed with, that would be one of the refreshing elements of the film. Gangs of Wasseypur and Delhi Belly are about to get some stiff competition.

Come for Shahid, stay for Alia.

It is hard not to get in trance just by looking Shahid Kapoor’s vulgar, tattooed, junkie rock-star avatar. This isn’t to say that looks would be all the actor would be about in the film; expect him to bring it, and bring it hard. But the real star of the movie is surprisingly going to be Alia Bhatt, who is all poised to give her career-best performance.

It might not seem that way right now but Udta Punjab will be a blockbuster.

Despite the online piracy, the negative publicity and ‘A’ only certificate, the film is all-set to become a commercial success as well. It is impossible to suppress a good film, Aamir Khan once said—and this movie will be a perfect example for that.

It is going to be an important film—whether or not it changes anything.

All the above mentioned points would be somewhat pointless if not for delivering its most important promise. The film, which is going to highlight the terrible drug situation in Punjab, might not change anything in the state but it can be a start of something new. If not anything, the film would certainly raise awareness, which is necessary for both the state and the country.

    What do you think?
