As big a master craftsman as he is, Aamir Perfectionist Khan has never let the sight of numbers get too far away from him. So much so, that his quality rich content has always kept him in contention of breaking all solid box office records. From Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak to Raja Hindustani to Ghajini, while Aamir has listened to his heart to fully invest himself in a project, the luck has understandably favored this brave.

But were you aware that Dangal isn’t the first time he has broken the record of highest grossing film with? The actor at four different occasions has been at the top of what could only be described as the biggest possible record.

Ghajini

Record Held (From December 2008 to December 2009)

Created the 100 Crore club

The action revenge drama directed by A.R. Murugadoss back in 2008 was a rage everybody was obsessed with. From wearing the same hairstyle to getting the tattoos inked on the body, if anything Ghajini oozed in its fans was simple obsession. The Aamir Khan starrer was the first film to open the 100 crore club in India and became the highest grossing film over taking SRK’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi that released just two weeks before its release. The figures that Ghajini achieved over its theatrical run only showcased the unparalleled possibilities Bollywood hadn’t explored.

3 Idiots

Record Held (From December 2009 to August 2013)

Created the 200 crore club

The film that went past the unparalleled Ghajini threshold was again an Aamir Khan release. The Raju Hirani directorial 3 Idiots that probably broke all possible box office records not only became the first film to create the 200 crore club, it is also widely regarded as the one of the best films to have come out of Indian cinema. The film held this prestigious record for more than three years as SRK’s Chennai Express in 2013 became the only the second film ever to enter the 200 crore club and break its record.

Dhoom 3

Record Held (From December 2013 to December 2014)

Created the 250 crore club

The record that Shah Rukh snatched away from Aamir was reclaimed by Mr. Perfectionist with Dhoom 3, the biggest release of the year. While the film broke all records for the opening numbers, it eventually went on to become the highest grossing film ever with collections as huge as 284.27 crores. Dhoom 3 was probably the first film to declare the inception of a 300 crore club wasn’t merely an imaginative one in the country.

With the reunion of Raju Hirani and Aamir Khan, while audiences were indeed expecting a box office hurricane to dominate, they didn’t know it would amass close to 350 crores in its lifetime. Once again, it was Aamir Khan beating himself to come out on top again. With PK, the trends followed a route no one could have imagined as it collected a mammoth 340.8 crores. While Salman Khan’s Sultan tried to put up a challenge in 2016, it could only make peace by just entering the 300 crore club.

Dangal

Holds Record (From December 2016)

Created the 350 crore club

Who did we expect really to break that long held highest grossing record by PK? Of course Aamir Khan himself! The actor who put all his blood and sweat into making this sports drama may not have really have expected the kind of fate it was welcomed to. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal which is currently India’s highest grosser ever sailed past the PK landmark just a few weeks ago. While it is still currently running in theaters, the collections have also the touched the coveted 375 crore mark. To expect it to create the 400 crore club may really be a far-fetched possibility, however Dangal has introduced us to that prospect as well.
