Who exactly is Pad-man?

Yesterday, news broke that Akshay Kumar is all set to R. Balki's Pad-man. The film, which seems to be another interesting addition to the actor's already-busy schedule, will also star Sonam Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan, it was reported. Moreover, the film will be produced by none other than Twinkle Khanna.

Other than this, the film's poster was released by Akshay Kumar himself. The graphic poster shows a representation of sanitary pad, along with the words "based on an extraordinary true story". 

And which led us to find about who exactly is Pad-man?

The film, it turns out, will be based on the Arunachalam Muruganantham, who is commonly referred to as  India’s ‘Menstruation Man.’

#1 Based in Tamil Nadu, Arunachalam Muruganantham is a social entrepreneur who invented the low-cost sanitary pad making machines.

#2 Not only that, he has developed grass-root mechanisms for creating more awareness about traditional and unhygienic practices to deal with menstruation, especially in the rural parts of India.

#3 His incredible journey began when he found out that his wife had a habit of using old rags during the time of her month. His great quest began as a way to provide her better alternative.

#4 But sadly her wife, unable to deal with the embarrassment it brought to her, left him, thinking it might bring him to his senses. Years later, when she saw the impact he had with his efforts, she went and stood beside him.

#5 After a lot of effort, he had not only made high-quality sanitary pads for a fraction it used to cost earlier. But because of his efforts, several jobs were created at the manufacturing plant that aids in the supply of these pads...

#6 Such was his impact that he was named in the 100 Most Influential People in the World. Also, in 2016, he was awarded Padma Shri by Government of India for his society-benefitting endeavours.
