Audience Movie review: Sachin: A Billion Dreams!

And here is what MJ Yathath has to say:

A biographical drama isn't really a bad idea especially when it comes to conveying the story of India's most celebrated sportsman ever. Sachin A Billion Dreams is a goosebumpy, emotionally stirring and an inside tour for all the fans who over the last 25 years have only caught him on TV playing cricket.

Narrated by Sachin himself, the documentary styled narrative is helped to serve purpose by the Tendulkar family, fellow cricketers, journalists and more.

Of course this isn't the kind of stuff trying to get you at the edge of seats with highs and lows of screenplay, but this is no less than a treat for Sachin's fans and cricket lovers in the country.

The unseen family footages and Sachin at his candid best can move you to tears as brightly as they make you smile. The drama isn't written here and yet it feels like a story that needed to be conveyed through cinema.

While it visually takes us places that we've only read or heard about, the narration by Sachin makes it an experience.

The first half of the film walks us through his growing up, picking up cricket, getting married, facing tough times, the second half as we guess will cover the rest of his journey. If anything a die-hard Sachin fan could have wished for was to see his unforgettable innings on the big screen with cinematic effects and background scores and Sachin A Billion Dreams serves more than it promises.

It's difficult to review this for we don't know if cinematic values should even apply. As MS Dhoni rightfully called out yesterday, it's not a movie, it's an experience.
