Bajirao Vs Dilwale: Who Is Controversy's Favourite Child!

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's historic romantic tale of Bajirao Mastani is stuck in a number of controversies. Most of them being the allegations by the descendants of Peshwa Bajirao for "altering" the facts and showing their late king Bajirao in the wrong light. 

SLB's Bajirao Mastani sees Ranveer Singh as Bajirao, Priyanka Chopra as Kashibai and Deepika Padukone as Mastani. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's long time curated film, Bajirao Mastani was initially announced in 2003 but the project was put to rest due to some reason and it took him as long as 12 years to finally get the right cast and release the film. The film is a beautifully orchestrated love story between Bajirao and Mastani.

But the Marathi Peshwa's tale is stuck in a number of disagreements.

1. It is being said that the cinema has altered the history. Peshwa Bajirao's first wife Kashibai's descendant has filed a petition stating that queen Kashibai suffered from arthritis and was bedridden for most of her life. She also suffered from asthma and it was impossible for her to dance with Mastani, the way Priyanka dances with Deepika in the famous song 'Pinga'. It is also being said that the song is offensive to the Marathi culture. Also, the royal ladies would have never danced in public is another argument.

2. Another controversy relating to 'Pinga', is that the song has been transformed into an 'item number'. The problem is related to the dance direction and the costumes of the two leading ladies. 

3. There are allegations for not keeping the privacy of the late king intact. The scene where Bajirao is seen pouring water over Kashibai's head is also being taken under the scanner. 

4. It is also being claimed that Mastani and Kashibai met only once formally, but they are seen sharing a lot of moments on the screen in Bajirao Mastani. 

5. One of the most used dialogues of Bajirao, "Bajirao ne Mastani se mohabbat ki hai, aiyashi nahi," is being termed as vulgar. 

So, more or less the controversies are related to facts that are shown in the film. The descendants hold a point that history should be seen as aesthetically as possible with the maximum amount of cinematic liberty given, but it should not demean or downgrade the characters portrayed. 

This grand film is set to release on 18th December 2015 with Rohit Shetty's Dilwale. The clash between the two is being termed as the biggest clash of the year. So, while dealing with the history and putting all the facts correctly on the table seems to be a little troublesome for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Dilwale has not had any hard-hitting problems so far.
