5 Best Animated Movies To Be Ever Made in Bollywood

Even though the quality of Bollywood films have consistently been on the rise, animated movies still have a long way to go.

For one thing, most of the animated movies that are made in Bollywood are still children-oriented. Also, a large percentage of the movies are based on religious deities. Not to say either of the things are negative in any way. They just hinder the potential that the animated genre possesses.

But this isn't to say it's all bad news. 

Over the past few years, animation in Bollywood has massively improved. Mix that with better scripts and direction and you have movies that can stand on their own feet. 

Here are best experiments conducted by Indian filmmakers in animation:

Ramayana: The Epic

One of the finest animated movies to come out of our country, Ramayana: The Epic tells the popular tale of Lord Rama in a refreshing new light. But what the stood-out the most was the film's impressive visual effects.

Hanuman

Another religion-based story, what sets apart Hanuman from other animated movies (and movies in general really) is that it was sweet and charming without getting cloying. Additionally, it is one of the only Bollywood animated to have been declared a hit.

Yes, the film has its flaws. But the fact that the film tries to do something different deserves an applause. The film's uneven storytelling and over-use of violence (it's a kids movie), are surpassed by the film's superior voice-cast (Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Javed Jaffrey) and good musical score makes it a worthwhile watch.

Delhi Safari

Another movie with some faults that are overriden by the other elements. This Nikhil Advani movie suffered from average visual effects but the film's social message combined with good voice work makes this one of the inventive animated movies to be made in India. 

Ghatothkach

Utilizing one of the lesser known characters from the epic Mahabhartha, Ghatothkach does an interesting thing: it barely mentions the popular events from the text. This results in a fresh story which is sensitively and sensibly told.
