7 Bollywood Celebrities Who Have Been Honored As Citizens By Foreign Countries

Bollywood has seen many iconic celebrities that have made our nation proud internationally. While some have worked international films and there are other who have taken our industry beyond the boundaries of our country and made it popular across the world.

Some nations even made it a point to acknowledge the share of work done by these celebrities by making them honorary citizens of their states.  A honorary citizenship is bestowed of induvials od a foreign citizen by a country when it considers them admirable, iconic or worthy of the honor in any other capacity. All in all it’s a huge honor and these Bollywood celebrities did something extra ordinary to deserve it.

Amitabh Bachchan – On of the most iconic Bollywood stars, Amitabh Bachchan has so many honors in his name and certainly so many more to come. His stardom knows no bounds and just in India but internationally. In 2003, he was conferred with the Honorary Citizenship of the French town of Deauville.

Yash Chopra – Yash Chopra knew romance like on other in Bollywood. The veteran director has for years warmed our hearts with his films and his love for foreign locales especially Switzerland knew no bounds. Switzerland loves him no less given that he has an entire lake named after him in the country and a special statue of his was unveiled this year for his contributions to cinema through Switzerland. Needless to say that he was also a honorary citizen of Switzerland.

Kader Khan – The veteran actor has tickled our funny bone in over 300 films over many years. There is no comedian in the industry today that can parallel his sense of humor or timing. We certainly love and admire his contribution to cinema. The actor was bestowed the honorary citizenship of Houston in 2007.

The Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar has given us so many beautiful songs to fall in love with. She is not just an icon in the field of Indian music but in the international music space. She was honored as the citizen of The Republic of Surinam, South America in 1980. In 1987 was made the honorary of Honorary Citizenship of United States in Houston, Texas.
