Bombay High Court Now Frees Aamir Khan From Charges

Aamir Khan’s inspiring and hard-hitting Satyamev Jayate has been freed by Bombay High Court. The show, which is also produced by Aamir, got into trouble when a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed against the show accusing that the title of show was in violation of certain provisions of Indian law.

The complaint was that the words 'Satyamev Jayate', which are a part of India's emblem, require proper guidelines to be followed before there are used. But the PIL was dismissed by Bombay High Court yesterday.

According to Justice AS Oka and Justice AA Sayyed, there was no merit in the petition. Also, the division bench did not hold producers and actors to be responsible of the violation in any way. “They have not used the main Emblem and there is no use of pictorial representation of Ashok Chakra,” said the court.

Manoranjan Roy, who filed the complaint against the show, is an activist. Roy held State Emblem of India (Prohibition and Improper Use) Act and State Emblem of India (Regulation of Use) Rules against the title of the show.

But the court stated that even though representational use of the entirety of our national emblem calls for a violation, the use of the motto ‘Satyamev Jayate” is not prohibited.

The decision is a huge relief for Aamir Khan and crew. And it's another win for Bollywood in court.
