Box Office Report: Vidya Balan's Kahaani 2 Gets A Decent Opening

The second chapter of Kahaani franchise didn't crumble under the pressure of demonetisation.

After receiving favourable reviews by critics and audience alike, Vidya Balan's Kahaani 2 didn't disappoint at the box office as well. The movie, which also stars Arjun Rampal, has been praised for its acting and a strong first half. But even though the movie got positive feedback and the fact that it was a sequel were no assurances as recently Force 2 and Rock On 2 had flopped at the BO (partly) because of demonetisation.

But the Vidya Balan starrer had received better reviews compared to the other two movies and frankly was much more anticipated. In part, it was because the first installment was so well received and secondly the trailer of the movie had received applause.

So this all translated into decent box office numbers as the film is reported to have a 15-20% occupancy in the morning shows across the country. The occupancy was especially impressive in Kolkata, where the film is set. According to reports, the film recorded an occupancy of 40 to 50 per cent on day one. 

And that proved that the movie got decent numbers at the BO.

According to reports, the movie has minted  Rs 4-5 crore on its opening day, which by no means is a bad number. It was said that the movie wouldn't do well, given the slow start it received in the morning shows but now the movie seems to be over the hump.

Also, the movie is expected to grow over the weekend and cross the Rs 15 crore mark in its first three days.
