'Sarbjit' Box-Office: Weekend Collections Fail to Impress

This weekend’s release Sarbjit which stars Aishwarya Rai, Randeep Hooda and Richa Chadda has minted ₹13.96 crore in its first three days. Given the high anticipation of film and high-caliber star-cast, the collection of the film at the box-office is a little disappointing.

The film made a slow start, collecting only ₹3.69 crore on Friday. Though the business picked up on Saturday as the film added ₹4.56 crore. There was more growth on Sunday, with the film minting another ₹5.71 crore.

The film tells the story of Sarbjit Singh who was wrongly imprisoned in Pakistan for 23 years. Directed by Omung Kumar, who previously directed Priyanka Chopra-starrer Mary Kom, the biopic-film have received mixed reviews from the critics. While praise has been issued to the Randeep Hooda and his commitment to the role and film's engrossing topic, the film's biggest weak-link is Aishwarya Rai's performance as Sarbjit's sister.

The film's ₹13.69 crore is less than Aishwarya Rai's last release Jazbaa, which earned over ₹15 crore in its first weekend.

The weekend's other big release X-Men: Apocalypse also had a reasonable outing at the box-office. The film earned slightly more than Sarbjit, earning ₹16.71 crore over the course of its first three days.
