If Not Salman, Sushant Singh Rajput Is On His Way To Beat SRK Bigtime, Here’s How!

We are not going to talk about the acting potential or performances that stars and actors have delivered this year. 2016, that has fairly been a disastrously poor year for Bollywood’s box office saw one of the most awaited releases of the year open big. The long queues outside theaters, the houseful boards being back lead us to make a study!

Sushant Singh Rajput may fail to beat Salman Khan, but he’s taking over Shah Rukh Khan in all possibility box-office wise. This year’s Eid release Sultan that registered itself as the third entrant into the 300 crore club is clearly going to be the highest grossing film of the year (Unless Dangal pulls some magic.) With the kind of opening that M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story has got, it would still be unfair to expect it to be anywhere close to where Sultan was after its opening day. However, the film can indeed beat Shah Rukh Khan’s opening day collections of Fan.

If Not Salman, Sushant Singh Rajput Is On His Way To Beat SRK Bigtime, Here’s How!

While Sultan opened in the range of 40 crores, SRK’s Fan collected 17 crores on its first day and couldn’t even touch 90 (lifetime figures). With trade analysts predicting a similar (if not better) opening for M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story, it is likely that the film will become the second highest opener of 2016 after Sulltan. If this happens, not only will Sushant join the big league with this film of his, he will then look to move ahead of a lot of biggies and stars this year.

With Rustom, Housefull 3 and Airlift being the only 100 crore grossers other than Sultan, M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story makes solid grounds to sail past Shah Rukh and Akshay and make his film earn big moolah.

However, the excessive length of the film (3 hours 5 minutes) is a major threat to its high aspirations. While films like Airlift, Rustom, Sultan and Fan had record number of shows in day, the long runtime of M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story has restricted its number. This may ultimately turn out as a drawback for the film in the long run.

Despite all that, the trends show the film has opened big and is running to packed housed all across the country. If the buzz translates into numbers, let’s prepare ourselves for a bigtime box office winner finally!
