Diljit Dosanjh's Interview With Anupama Chopra Proves That He's The Best!

In a candid interview with Anupama Chopra, Diljit Dosanjh has laid bare all his thoughts and opinions on the music industry, the art of making popular music, working in a Bollywood film with Bollywood Superstars. He talks about his journey, his efforts in learning music,  making music, identifying with the demands of people, brotherhood in the Punjabi Music industry, his obsession with Yeezy 350s and much more.

When being asked about how much is he liked by people for his music, he mentions "Punjab ke log ek baar bande se connect ho gaye na to bas.."

He remains extremely candid about his lack of expertise in fluent English and blows our minds away with his witty remarks and honest commentary on the kind of relationships people share in this industry. He mentions some extremely amazing things throughout this interview with Anupama Chopra, some of them being:

"Main kabhi businessman ka role nahi kar sakta. Jo feel karta hun wahi dikhaata hun".

"When I was shooting for 'Udta Punjab' and used to get up in the morning , I would smile and think ' Wake up Champ, today you get to work with Kareena' I am really thankful to her, she made me comfortable on the sets.".

"Never thought I would ever come to Bollywood. People used to tell me, you wear a turban, how would you ever fit in that place? But when they were conducting look tests for Udta Punjab, they never asked me to go through a look test because they wanted someone who wore a turban. I felt like the role of 'Sartaj' was written for me only. Things happen that way."

"I want to do limited roles, and once I get connected with the role, it is easier for me to portray real emotions. I can not manage 'acting', I smile differently in different takes. That's not acting. Stars can manage that, I can't."

"I am an Urban Pendu. Urban sounds a bit fake and wannabe kind, but this is what is in these days. Kids like it. But I am definitely a pendu. That's for sure.

On being asked about the recent trends in Punjabi songs, he says, "I don't really like this trend of comparison between the rich or the middle class. For example, there is a guy telling a girl, oh you're so rich and you have cars but I don't have anything like that. Everyone wants to become a Pendu."

About his aspirations, his dreams, star power, and his plans for future (and his love for accessories, too).

When Anupama Chopra asks him about what kind of music he really wants to make and whether he is being successful in making it, he opens up and tells what all keeps going on in his mind!

"I want to make romantic songs for the youth. I want to secure my future that is why I make songs for the masses. I am yet to give my 100% in my music. But I  need to get financially secure so that I can shift my focus completely to the kind of music I really want to create. If I sing such songs, that's because people these days want to listen to them. That's what works on the charts."

When Anupama Chopra asks whether he likes it when these songs become popular, he giggles and replies, "If my young son sings 'Bomb lagdi mainu', maine chittar maarne saale de. Umar dekh".

However, he mentions that "I made a song on Bhagat Pooran Singh, and that has the least number of hits. Whereas the song 'Patiala Peg' has very good number of hits. This is what makes artists think. If the songs like 'Sun Ve Poorna' get more hits, why would an artist not want to make more songs like this? "

When Anupama asks him about the rivalry amongst fellow musicians like Badshah , Honey Singh, and others, he replies casually:

"Everyone in the circle works together. There no rivalry as such. We work together, have fun, pull each other;s legs and have a good time together. Everyone creates music according to their own preferences, but at the end of the day even if we have competition, it makes us better. It inspires us to create even better than what we are currently doing."

He also casually mentions that he wants Yeezy 350 shoes, and he really likes them. He also confessed that Badhsah owns those shoes and he has not been able to get them. Diljeet made a special request to Kanye West on screen,

"Wanna request Kanye West, Kin Kardashian's husband 'Shoes banaate ho to out of stock mat kiya karo. Do logon ko."

He ends with saying that he would love to grow out his beard, become a proper Sikh after tasting Amrat and work in Hollywood movies so that everyone would recognize him as "Wo sardaar ji jo Hollywood filmon me aate hain."

High time we realized that this punjabi munda is the next superstar we all need!
