Here’s Why The First Half of 2017 Was Really Disappointing For Bollywood Music

The first half of 2017 was like a period of drought in Bollywood when it comes to music. It’s been one of the most laid back and unimpressive year so far in terms of good music.

Kaabil only had a version of Rajesh Roshan’s old song Dil Kya Kare which didn’t quite taste the same success as his original composition.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees too was not impressive, considering Zaalima was the only song that got a bit popular.

The only respite this first half was Dharma’s Badrinath Ki Dulhania whose music album was hummable and memorable. It was a complete masala entertainer.

Anushka Sharma’s Phillauri had a few good soulful songs like Dum Dum, Saheba and What’s Up, but their charm also died quickly.

Meri Pyaari Bindu’s only highlight was Parineeti Chopra’s Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahin which she sung herself.

Half Girlfriend too wasn’t impressive given the fact that the film tanked and the music wasn’t chartbusting.

90s pop star Sukhbir’s return with his song Taare Gin Gin in Hindi Medium, and Suit Suit made some ripples.

Raabta was another album after Badrinath that almost tasted some popularity with Ek Vaari, Main Tera Boyfriend, and Deepika’s item song Raabta.

Tubelight was a fuse bulb when it came to songs, and the Radio song didn’t quite make the same waves as Salman Khan Songs do.

With just two good albums in Badrinath and Raabta to some extent, 2017 has been alarming in Bollywood music and not a very good sign for the industry either. The upcoming big films like Jab Harry Met Sejal and Jagga Jasoos have Pritam’s music which is giving some hope to music lovers, rest we can only pray that the second half of 2017 which has really promising movies in the lineup can save the day.
