Game Of Thrones Season 6 Episode 1 Review: Convinced That Jon Snow Is Dead? Not Yet

Game Of Thrones Season 6 Episode 1 Review: Convinced That Jon Snow Is Dead? Not Yet

    Spoiler Alert

The episode that had fans waiting in anticipation for almost a year didn’t make way for any major answers you were perhaps looking for. In fact, it stretches it further to elongate our already high hopes to see what fate has Jon Snow been made to attain. Is Jon Snow dead? Yes, he is. Can he be resurrected? Perhaps may be. Somewhere in the indistinct theories that kept floating since last year, the first episode ends with a tease of ‘red magic’ work (If you know what we mean).

Game Of Thrones Season 6 Episode 1 Review: Convinced That Jon Snow Is Dead? Not Yet

The episode titled ‘The Red Woman’ isn’t too much of a disappointment really, but for fans who don’t accept anything underwhelming with this series may find it impromptu of a start. To be fair, Episode 1 strikes most cords right and builds up to an eventful flow of episodes that will follow in weeks to come. Having covered almost all bases in this one, it sets up straight where it left from and doesn’t let you watch your clock at all.

If a 50 odd minute long episode seems like ending in a jiffy, it is good signs right?

“I saw him in the flames fighting in Winterfell”, says Melisandre looking at the corpse of Jon Snow. While these words pump up the optimism across the viewers, the very next second Ser Davos tones it down and says, “I can’t speak for the flames, but he’s gone.” The makers here looked like toying with the idea of keeping Jon Snow’s fate hanging. At some junctions while Melisandre appears to come with a possibility of his resurgence, everything else suggests it’s a done deal.

On other notes, Daenerys’ abduction by Dothrakis and her eventual barney with their master is a striking sequence. Her rescue from where she is in will be something to look forward to now. After a broken Cersei learns of her daughter’s death, there’s Jamie reassuring her of revenge and firmly quotes, “For everything they’ve taken from us, we are going to take back and more.”

There’s one prospect however where the makers shed out a clear answer and that is the much talked about escape of Sansa and Theon. After Ramsay’s men find out the two in snow, guess who comes to down to rescue them? Brienne of Tarth who of course later submissively vouches for her safety.

Also Dornish ladies standing up to their own king and murdering them was something we didn’t see coming!

Game of Thrones Season 6 has taken off with a pace we cannot be complaining about. While the first episode was strictly restricted to cover major elements, let’s hope the show follows it up in similar styles. However of course, there’s plenty more to be desired. Keep them coming!
