GOT Episode 7 Review: The War Mode Is On

GOT Episode 7 Review: The War Mode Is On

Having taken us through a drag with an episode last week that saw its audience struggling to draw much sense, it is only better if the makers start making good amends before this season loses out in limbo. After all, is Jon Snow’s resurrection all what this season wants to known for? Perhaps not! While the new episode titled ‘The Broken Man’ collided several narratives, it’s virtually winding war at all ends.

Yes, the character that has often found an indescribable empathy from the audiences until he was killed in season 4 is now back. To be precise, the presumed dead ‘Sandor Clegane’ popularly known as The Hound is back. Wandering somewhere in Westeros slicing woods for guest star Ian McShane, the Hound seems to have made it well. Ian who plays a character named Ray had apparently saved him after he found him almost dead. He is quiet but filled with vengeance, he follows salvanation, but knows how to fight. His course of journey after Ray and his fellow workers are murdered at the end of the episode will further make it interesting as how he approaches his way.

GOT Episode 7 Review: The War Mode Is On

Things at King’s Landing are slow and deceptive. After the High Sparrow got the king under his influence, he was seen sharing a conversation with Margeary where he hopes her to produce an heir for the kingship. Of course looking by his intention, it seems he wants to put the unborn under the God’s outreach as well. Margeary if playing along with the game is doing well as she is seen conveying a crucial message to Olenna asking her to leave as soon as possible.

On the other hand, Sansa and Jon along with their new trusted advisor Ser Davos are trying to put together an army big enough to take on the Boltons. After the Willdlings come on board, the three take their case up to House Mormount where after an inspirational talking session, they come out earning a total 62 more fighters. However, the war seems to be on in any case and it is only for the better of them all that more names in support of House Stark get together to fight the battle.

Jamie, who was commissioned to fight with the Blackfish as they are alleged to have occupied Frey’s castle gets in a fiery one on one with Brynden Tully. Brynden who isn’t even bothered about the threat of his nephew Edmure being killed, tells Jamie that he is ready to fight for he has an army to last 2 years. With Jamie on the back foot, odds are that Riverun is going to stay with House Tully, at least for a while.

Oh, Theon and Yara after being on a run for their lives are found in a brothel where Yara wants to have her time and is pointlessly persuading Theon to feel like an Ironborn. If this leads to something good, it will be a surprise really!

However, the biggest ‘Oh that moment ’, came in the last part of narration when a desperate to get out of Braavos, Arya is seen trading to travel back to Westeros. Only a few seconds later, disguised with the face of an old lady Waif stabs her in abdomen before Arya pushes her back and jumps into the water. Yes we later see her surviving as she comes out and walks with the looks of seeking help as blood comes out of her, we are still not sure what further shape up will save her this time. If she isn’t saved, all this build up will be for nothing so the makers have that warning up from here.

The Broken Man had promise that most other episodes in the season haven’t delivered so far. Although, it pretty much does what every last episode in the season and season before that have been doing, ‘Build up’. With a virtual war ready to ignite fire at any moment, all corners of the story are bracing up for one in some way.

Also, did you know it was probably the first time the opening theme credit came after the opening scene! Impressive, but quite unlike GOT, no?

Oh and by the way, team Khaleesi sat this one out!
