The Jungle Book: How It Made Bollywood Biggies Look Like Minions

The Jungle Book: How It Made Bollywood Biggies Look Like Minions

Four weeks ago if a box office analyst had predicted that The Jungle Book would do double the business of Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan, you would have perhaps laughed him of and be dismissed him of his views that quite honestly threw bizarre notions. Today, as we speak, Jon Favreau’s ‘The Jungle Book’ is sitting on a heap of fortune with exactly twice the figure of what SRK’s much anticipated project Fan could garner through its box office outing. The Jungle Book – 165 Crores

    Fan – 82.3 Crores

This speaks for something that may be our Indian cinematic minds haven’t been able to read too easily. In a cricket dominated season where Bollywood biggies in a row are finding hard to recover their cost of production, the Hollywood animation flick comes and breaks all previous records set in the history of Indian box office (Hollywood).

Here are some records that The Jungle Book has made in the last two weeks:

Highest Grossing Hollywood Movie At Indian Box Office Surpassing Last Year’s Furious 7

First Ever Movie To Break Into 100 Crore Club (Later 150) Without Even A Single Star On Screen

First Non-Bollywood Release To Go Past 150 Crores

Highest Grossing Movie Of The Year Including All The Bollywood Releases

Longest Performing Film Of The Year With 4 Fruitful Weeks And Counting

First Film Of 2016 To Go Past 150 Crore Mark

First Film Of The Year To Not Drop Below A Crore Mark Even On A Single Day After Its Release

The Jungle Book: How It Made Bollywood Biggies Look Like Minions

The Jungle Book with a dreamlike run all over the world has proved that content is the ultimately king and no star power can eventually take a film up to such heights. The Indian audiences have shown their complete patronage to this adventure fantasy which goes out to further validate the fact that no cricketing season or a rally of big releases can subdue quality content on screen.

However, there are also reasons for this jungle story faring better in Indian markets:

Familiar Story: The Jungle Book story is something every Indian is acquainted with quite well.

Stars Involvement: It’s a proven fact to the makers that you need stars in some form to make the project work. With the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Om Puri and Nana Patekar voicing the Indian version of the movie, audience found a connect quite easily.

Hindi Version: With quality dubbing by the stars with an absolutely sound Hindi writing, the core Indian audience found it easy to visit the theaters and watch rather than wait for its television premiere.

With 165 crores after its 4th weekend, The Jungle Book is at par with biggest of Bollywood blockbusters in the last few years. With the kind of mood it has currently set for itself, it is presumably safe to say the film will touch the milestone of 175 crores or maybe more.

Did we ever think a Hollywood flick would make all other Bollywood releases look like minions? We didn’t! Certainly not so soon!
