It has been lean six month for Hindi film industry. With the lone multi-crore spinner being a Telugu film, Baahubali 2 , the rest of films released this year have failed to surpass expectations or, mostly, even match them. Shah Rukh Khan has already had a release this year but the gangster drama Raees managed to earn about Rs 133 crore in its entire lifetime. While impressive, it is way less than what a superstar vehicle is supposed to earn.

That puts a lot of pressure on Imtiaz Ali’s next, Jab Harry met Sejal, slated for release this Friday. The movie that also stars Anushka Sharma in the lead role is the story of a guide (Harry played by SRK) and Sejal (essayed by Anushka). If trade pundits are to be believed, the film may score a big opening at the ticket windows. The film has been made at an estimated budget of Rs 90 crore.

Experts predict that the film may become one of the top three openers for this year. While Salman Khan’s Tubelight made an opening collection of Rs 21.15 crore, Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees minted Rs 20.42 crore.

Trade analyst Komal Nahta told Hindustan Times, “I have not watched the film yet, so cannot comment on the collections. However, the makers have created a good buzz around the film and Harry and Sejal are now household names. The film is likely to cross Rs 19-20 crore on the first day. The advance bookings are also going strong.”

According to Koimoi, the film may earn Rs 23-25 crore on day one and is likely to cross Rs 60-70 crore over the weekend. The website quoted trade expert Sumit Kadel as saying, “The opening day could clock around 22-23 crores and weekend should be 75-76 crores.”

Made at an estimated budget of Rs 90 crore, Jab Harry Met Sejal has already earned Rs 25 crore from the satellite and distribution rights. The film needs to cross the mark of Rs 150 crore to be a declared a hit.

While Shah Rukh has not tasted blockbuster success for some time, Anushka is on a winning spree with her previous films Sultan and Phillauri proving to be profitable for the makers.

SRK may not have had box office success expected from his films, but he certainly has made a lot of money on the opening days in the past two years. Fan (2016) earned Rs 19.20 crores on day one while Dilwale (2015) earned Rs 21 crore . Happy New Year (2014) collected Rs 44.97 crore on the first day of its release.
