What’s common between Ek Tha Tiger, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and the upcoming movie Tubelight? Most of us would not even think a second to answer that! Of course it’s Salman Khan. And, what else?

Did you get stuck there? Then you are missing on one of the most promising directors we have in the Bollywood Industry today! We are talking of Kabir Khan!

The director of such blockbusters had a humble start, to begin with. He was a cinematographer who worked with Discovery Channel in 1996, 10 years before him first feature film released. He was also a documentary director who directed three docu-films!

The theme of his documentaries reflects the kind of feature films that he has directed! Pick up any and you would know that the director loves to have the backdrop of war, terrorism or India’s relation to other countries!

5. Phantom (2015)

The film was set on the backdrop of 26/11 Mumbai attacks. While the film was a great attempt, it was criticized for its oversimplified plot and lazy screenplay! It got a luke warm response in the box-office!

4. Ek Tha Tiger(2012)

Kabir Khan was back with a bang, this time with hit machine Salman Khan by his side. The film tries to showcase Indo-Pak relations with the love story of two spies from the other sides of the border woven in it! While the film had its obvious share of flaws, it was nevertheless a watchable movie!

3. New York (2009)

Suspicion and discrimination took a whole new shape in the US after the 9/11 attacks! The film traces the journey of three Indian students studying in the US and how their lives change after the attacks! While the theme and the intention of the movie were fascinating, the story is generally sloppy and weak!

2.  Kabul Express(2006)

Kabir Khan was the director and the scriptwriter for this movie! It was an outcome of his several years of making documentaries on Afghanistan! He himself described it to be loosely based on his and his friend Rajan Kapoor's experiences in post-Taliban Afghanistan! Though there were several controversies for the way it portrayed the Hazara Shia community and for being as fictional as possible, nevertheless it won the Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director at the 54^th National Award Ceremony!

1. Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015)

This was the biggest blockbuster in Kabir Khan’s career that cemented his place in the list of great contemporary directors! It was a movie with a heart that basically assured how the two countries at each side of the border are same! With Salman showcasing some of his acting prowess and Harshali Malhotra stealing the show, this movie smashed all box office records and collected a number of awards including Best Popular film for Proving Wholesome Entertainment in the 63^rd National Awards!

Kabir Khan is also directing the upcoming Salman Khan movie Tubelight that will have the Indo-China war as its backdrop!
