4 Reasons Why Kahaani 2 Might Provide Us The Thriller Franchise We Desperately Need

Though Bollywood has emphatically adopted the sequel model in the past few years, it hasn't come close to perfecting it. Too often the sequels that do get made give a feeling that producers are only trying to make money in the short-run. But that approach often backfires and the result is sub-standard movies that don't earn as much as they could have.

Instead of this short-sighted  approach, the goal should be to create valuable stories that can create lasting franchises that in fact will be more viewable for the audience and more profitable for producers.

Uptill now only a handul of sequels have either meaningfully carried forward the original story or improved on their predecessors. Lage Raho Munnabhai and Tanu Weds Manu Returns are two examples of that. (There are not many more.)

But this Friday, Kahaani 2 is set to release and we feel that that it has all the signs to join the exclusive category:

1. Strong Original Film

If you look at all the great sequels that have ever been made in the world, there isn't one whose predecessor was poor. Meaning, to make a great sequel, you at least need a pretty good original story. And that is exactly what Kahaani was: a movie with a good story and execution.

2.  Returning Stars and New Additions

While it is a big plus point that Vidya Balan is returning for the sequel, the new actors (including Arjun Rampal and Tota Roy Chowdhury) who have also joined in are also very important if the movie is to be good.

3. Sujoy Ghosh

The dicey task of making sequels is always better suited to more skilled filmmakers and Sujoy Ghosh is among the best in the country.

4. Explosive Trailer Reactions

We know, in the past, we have been deceived by good trailers. But more often than not, when you a trailer leaves you impressed, the movie also doesn't disappoint. And Kahaani 2's explosive trailer made us really, really excited.
