After Kajol Here Is What Karan Johar Had To Say About His Fall Out With Shah Rukh Khan

By now we have a million odd reasons to pick up Karan Johar’s biography “An Unsuitable Boy” from the nearest book store as soon as it releases. The producer/director seems to be on a roll and has off late given us more than a few jolts with some candid comments over his sexuality and his friendship gone sour with actress Kajol.

Their friendship was in headlines when an excerpt from the book disclosed his disappointment with Kajol and how it stated that it was over between them. If you thought that the shocking bits end there then you have to hear his heart wrenching disclosures about his distance from his biggest Bollywood friend Shah Rukh Khan.

While the cracks in their friendship were evident ever since Karan declared that he is making a film and it did not have Shah Rukh in it. In an entire chapter dedicated to SRK, Karan wrote “When two people are so close. When they have done six feature films together and then haven’t worked together on the set for a while there is bound to be a gap. That is the way the industry is.” He added that he shouldn’t have made a promise that he would work only with SRK when he couldn’t live up to it.

The filmmaker also said that he hurt felt hurt about not having Shah Rukh in his film. “Shah Rukh is a very possessive person. He is a possessive friend. I think I may have hurt him when I made a film without him. And I think I got hurt because when I did, I felt he didn’t give me that paternal or fraternal feeling that I had from him otherwise. I think we were two hurt friends for no reason.”

“There was a simmering silent, respectable distance between us. But, there is also an equal amount of love an affection we have for each other. That’s never going to go.” Karan added, while acknowledging that they never had a “blowout” and that people were envious of their friendship.

They may never have spoken about it but certainly both bore the guilt of their distance. They have very much healed together and the Karan wrote “I’m kind of back in Shah Rukh’s life in a way."

He also recalled their meeting at Deepika Padkone’s party where they met and spoke to each other and also shared an emotional moment. "We met at Deepika’s party celebrating Piku’s success at one point when we were talking, we looked at each other I hugged him instinctively and said, ‘I’ve missed you’. And he said, ‘You’ve no idea how much I’ve missed you.’ We had this moment.”

It would be unnecessary to recount that both these Bollywood biggies are as good as family to one another but Karan has also mentioned the fact and also added that Shah Rukh was the first person he contacted when his friendship with Kajol hit rock bottom. “When I had a falling out with Kajol. The first call I made was to Shah Rukh. He came to meet, spoke about it to me.

Then I called Adi and we discussed it. My instinct was to call Shah Rukh first. He had nothing to do with the problem. But I still called him because somewhere Shah Rukh, Kajol and I have been so close.”

Now that’s as far as anyone can go to declares the value of their friends in their life and it is certainly sad but also really insightful on many levels, coming directly from the filmmaker.
