Ki & Ka Movie Review: Go For Light-Hearted Entertainment, Expect To Get WOWed At The End!

So the movie Ki & Ka is something which did not come across as very promising to me in the first half as all the stereotypes were being reinforced with full zeal and details. To the point that I thought, where is even Balki going with this? I felt enraged, but the second half made it all worth it. With that part, R. Balki proved how he has the knack of dealing with mundane things and turning them into something so insightful that you are left questioning everything.

So Kia and Kabir, (Ki and Ka) played by Kareena and Arjun are two different people who meet, fall in love and get married. However, Kabir is not the sort of person who would love to play the role of a typical husband and hence decides to stay and home and be a house-husband, whereas Kareena plays the ambitious Corporate woman who wants to achieve all of her dreams as soon as possible. Things start taking a different turn when differences arise and how they deal with them is a treat to watch. 

And that's exactly when you realise that why Balki was making us cringe by showing random things as Kabir wearing a mangalsutra or being submissive. This film makes you question everything you have been told to believe in, and it definitely gives us food for thought. Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan are fabulous in their guest roles. And there is a letter at the end which makes the whole film worth watching.

Sometimes in the movie, you feel like the character of Kia lacks depth or acts on a whim. That's a distraction. But when Balki comes to the story telling part, it completely blows one away. Certain scenes could have been done away with, but all in all this two-hour long film is definitely a one time watch. Go for a light-hearted entertainment, even if you feel like the first part is not enough, stay for the second part because that is exactly where the film takes a turn.
