For Netflix, time in India hasn’t been especially useful.  After launching the video streaming service in India in January, the company has faced stiff competition from Indian platforms like Hotstar. Also, tie-ups with U.S. networks with Indian channels, has really restricted the company.

Though, Netflix has a large catalogue of shows in U.S., India has received only 7% of the library. This is a major turn-off for a lot of Indian viewers, who were expecting more from the company. Though, the company has been updating its content since its release. Hence, production of original content is crucial for the company.

Sacred Games is part of that plan. The show, whose release date is still undecided, would join the likes of House of Cards, Orange is the New Black and Narcos
