Having made an ecstatic build up to its supremely wide release across the South region, Rajinikanth’s Kabali is all set to reveal itself to the audience tomorrow. While the film is reported to have been booked throughout the week, the question is will this film be able to break all opening day records for Tamil releases?

While some trade analysts are expressing some doubts it, the advance booking response and audience’s enthusiasm tell a different story. Going strictly by predicting numbers, Kabali is not just looking to break all records set, it is also potentially expected to set a new benchmark by some distance. Here are the top opening day numbers for Tamil biggies in the last few years:

I Movie – 34.74 Crores

Rajinikanth’s last release Lingaa that came out in 2014 (that apparently entailed losses to its distributors) is still is the biggest Tamil opener with 37.23 crores. Putting simple equations of business in place, the possibility of Kabali hitting the 50 crore mark on its opening day cannot be ruled out. We saw that happening last year in Tollywood with Baahubali, a much anticipated Rajinikanth movie is no less of an event after all.
