Rishi Kapoor Confesses That He BOUGHT The Best Actor Award For Bobby In 1973!

Rishi Kapoor is as candid as one actor can get. He is one such artist who does not care about political correctness when he speaks. His statements and his tweets have caused a lot of uproar and controversies in the past but that does not deter the veteran actor from being the 'khullam khulla' person that he is!

In an interview with Quint, the actor had admitted how he had bought the Filmfare Award back in 1973 for his movie Bobby. he had said,

I’d like to be awarded purely for my work and I will be. I won’t lobby for awards. Incidentally, I have no hesitation in admitting that I was impetuous once. I had to buy the Filmfare Award for my performance in Bobby… why’re you looking at me like that? That’s not off-the-record.

Now that his biography, Khullam Khulla, he had a conversation with India Today. When the journalist talked about paying 30,000 for Filmfare Award. He quickly corrected and said that he will consider it as "A" award and will not take any specific name. But he definitely accepted that being the brat he was then, he happily paid a person who had said that he will win the award if he pays an amount of 30,000 to the person.

He also clears the air saying that this might have been an attempt to con Rishi. He says the the person might have known that he will be winning the award and took advantage of the situation. But since he paid the amount and also won the award, he would always feel guilty!

But this statement definitely puts a huge question mark on the credibility of awards! If he indeed got the award by paying 30k back in 1973, that would mean anyone can get an award by paying something close to Rs 6.19 lakh! Quite a small sum, we have to say!

This year Filmfare attracted a lot of criticism when it left out powerful performances from its list of nominations. In fact, singer Amaal Mallik criticised the nomination through a long facebook post! While the actual awards redeemed Filmfare a little bit, this statement definitely would rekindle and make the doubt about "buying" awards stronger!
