Shah Rukh Khan’s Hans Raj admission form surfaces, students react to ‘low’ English marks

When a student-run online portal, Delhi University Times, shared the picture of actor Shah Rukh Khan’s admission form for Hans Raj College, many went into a trolling tizzy, targeting the actor’s ‘low marks’ in English, obtained when he graduated from school.

No one knows where the admission form came from, but, the admin of the portal, Milhaj Hussain, says the form, which also did the round a while back, is authentic. “We shared it online to showcase that marks don’t matter if you are hardworking enough and know your aim in life. And, who can be a better person to set an example than Shah Rukh Khan? Through our portal we encourage students. Also, celebrity posts attract a lot of traffic and students tend to talk about them more. When it’s the King of Bollywood, traffic is must.”

According to the form, Shah Rukh secured 51 in English. While for some SRK’s score reiterates the point that marks don’t matter in the long run, others question the soaring cut-offs in today’s day and age.

Mayank Aggarwal, a third year student of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College says, “I got better marks than Shah Rukh and still could not crack a college in North Campus. With marks like him, it is now difficult to get admission in any college of Delhi University. What has changed in all these years if the courses and colleges are the same?”

Sharing the same emotions, Viraj Shokeen, a second year student of Hans Raj College says: “If marks actually don’t matter, why does the system of cut-offs exist? A direct interview with the panel should be the entry criteria . Ab itne marks main Hans Raj kya, Aurobindo college bhi nahi milega. (With these marks, one would not be able to crack Aurobindo College, let alone Hans Raj in today’s time. ”

On the contrary, Rishab Suri, a third year student of Kirori Mal College, says, “Marks don’t define anyone. After a point, it is about how you present yourself. One can score a 95 in English and still not able to speak fluently! Coming to SRK, he just delivered the most amazing TED talk in Vancouver. Try beating that!”

Unsure of the authenticity of the admission form, Hans Raj College principal, Dr Rama, says: “Sharing an admission form is not illegal but making fun of his marks is not right. Students should understand that the scenario was different back then. The marking scheme and checking was different and difficult back then. I feel proud that Shah Rukh is from my college and marks don’t matter, it is the overall developement that matters.”
