An inevitable comparison that Sidharth Malhotra has always faced is the one we all face in our own families! Why is this person not doing as good as this person, even though they started together? Not only at homes, but in work life also, two people start together, but one of them races ahead and finishes in the first place. Sidharth Malhotra has been a victim of comparison because he started with Varun Dhawan in Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year.
While Varun did take his career graph very seriously and chose scripts with immense potential, he also proved himself to be more than just a great dancer. Varun undoubtedly is a great actor and his evolution in terms of his craft speaks for his success and crazy fandom.
But what went wrong with Sidharth that I’m writing this piece and you’re reading it? Actually, nothing went wrong. If you look back, he’s not a trained actor. He doesn’t come from a film family, even though he was launched by the alleged flag bearer of nepotism, Karan Johar!
In a comparative picture, while Varun experimented with his roles and also cashed on his Govinda like traits, Sidharth had nothing new to offer or claim as a patent. He was just a simple actor who was trying his fortune in Bollywood.
Sidharth and Varun walked into the 100 crore club in 2014. But even then Varun took a slight lead where his movie Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania raked 100 Cr in 2 weeks, while Sidharth’s Ek Villain did it in 3 weeks.
The only film where his fangirls went gaga over his performance was Hasee Toh Phasee, which again wasn’t a huge movie. Then, even after some chartbuster songs and associations, what is it that’s not letting us feel that Sidharth Malhotra is here to stay? Actually, what should he do or learn from his contemporaries?
Sid has a great screen presence, but, sometimes when he delivers a dialogue, no matter how hard he tries, he doesn’t convince us. May be he needs to work upon that a little more.
He’s worked with Akshay and none of the Khans
That’s a good thing and a bad thing both. While it is not true that working with the Khans on a film will guarantee you success (Eg: Varun and SRK’s combo in Dilwale was heavily criticised despite earning good money), there are actors like Ranveer Singh who have made it upward with sheer talent. Before you argue that he has the backing of Yash Raj, let’s face it, Sid will always have Dharma to his rescue! May be he needs to find a new go to person to help him select better scripts.
Sid usually gets trophy heroines
Sidharth’s good looks make it mandatory for the producers to cast a good looking beauty opposite him with no or less promising acting skills. But may be that’s not what he deserves. He needs more co-stars like Parineeti who brought out the best in him in HTP. Sometimes, the support of a great actress brings out the better of you too!
Sid needs a better director
As cliché as it may sound, Sid could be one of those actors who are a director’s actor. May be he needs an Imtiaz Ali, SLB or an Anurag Kashyap movie! With Aiyyari in the pipeline where he’s associating with Neeraj Pandey, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a better movie.
This Kukkad Kamal Da can do a lot of dhamaal at the box office provided he comes out of the shadow of his link ups, alleged affair, and seeks genuine advice from people, rather than frenemies who tweet good things about him and back bitch in their gossip rooms and WhatsApp groups.
Sidharth’s upcoming film is A Gentleman where he’s paired opposite Jacqueline Fernandez.
