Sidharth Malhotra's Evolution Proves He's A Super-Star In The Making

The much anticipated trailer of Baar Baar Dekho released to much applause yesterday.

Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif, the film has all the ingredients of a modern Bollywood film: there is the preppy item number, there are exotic locations, a bikini-clad actress—and also like the optimal modern Bollywood film, the film appears to have a refreshing take on an age-old formula. In Baar Baar Dekho’s case, the refreshing take is time travel.

In the film – it seems – Sidharth Malhotra’s character starts to age rapidly. So rapidly, in fact, that he ages 18 years in a matter of days. And since he is some sort of science person, he figures out that he has four days left to live.

This is another out-of-the-box role for Sidharth Malhotra, whose every film is vastly different from the last. It’s almost as if the actor gets bored by the genre after a film, and compulsively searches for something else, something new.

In a career that’s five years old, the model turned actor has done five films since he made a debut with Student Of The Year, with another one in production. And by the looks of it, there will be plenty more in his future.

Student Of The Year

Being a part of Karan Johar film requires a great deal of effort, especially if its your debut. Yes, there is a good deal of dancing involved but the ace director’s films also require an assuredness that matches the over-the-top narrative. Sidharth Malhotra’s earnest performance was a prime example of that.

Hassee Toh Phassee

It was an unsurprising move by the actor when he chose to follow up his debut with a romantic-comedy. Playing the role of an aspiring entrepreneur, the actor was no match for Parineeti Chopra’s explosive performance. But his on-screen presence was felt nonetheless.

Ek Villain

Just when we thought that the actor has settled for romantic movies for the time being, he went ahead played the role of a hardened criminal in this super-hit movie. There was an overall appreciation for his performance, with some critics likening him to young Amitabh Bachchan.

Brothers

This adaptation of the Hollywood movie Warrior, the film had him starring with acting greats such as Akshay Kumar and Jackie Shroff. The actor buffed up for the role of a MMA wrestler and delivered an intense performance. But despite all that, the film wasn’t well received.

Kapoor & Sons

The actor broke the mold yet again, this time by starring in an ensemble dramedy. Revolving around a family’s fortunes, this quirky movie had the actor starring opposite Alia Bhatt and Fawad Khan. The actor quickly put the disappointment of Brothers behind by starring in this fantastic movie which has become one of the most successful movies of the year.
