'Sairat' Is The Most Important Film Of The Year, Yet No One Is Talking About It!

While we are busy discussing film clashes and film festivals appearances, here is a film which is quietly making records, one theatre at a time.

'Sairat', the popular Marathi film which hit the theatres in April is slowly gaining momentum through word of mouth and now has become an unstoppable force.

Directed by Nagaraj Manjule, who has garnered critical acclaim for his last film 'Fandry' in 2013 for which he was felicitated with Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director at 61st National Film Awards.

Sairat has an unusual story, exceptional treatment, convincing and acting which make it a hard-hitting piece of fiction.

'Sairat' means wild in Marathi, and this is a story of a boy (Akash Thosar) born in lower caste who falls in love with a girl (Rinku Rajguru) from an upper caste in a caste-ridden society, which would never allow their love to bloom. Together they stand against the society and that's how the story unfolds.

This is Nagaraj's second film and he has managed to impress critics as well as the local audience. Reports are in that this film is doing exceptionally well through the word of mouth, and some theatres are scheduling late night shows as well for the audience.

Bollywood is paying close attention to this film and it is doing phenomenally well on local box offices as well as nationally.

Aamir Khan and Irrfan Khan have praised the film and the mindblowing performances of actors in this film has led to a special recognition by the National Film Awards. This is how Aamir Khan expressed his admiration for the film:

Irrfan Khan showed his support on Twitter too:

Sairat has already become the highest grosser in Marathi films and it is taking leaps and bounds towards becoming part of the iconic history of local cinema.
