Aligarh Trailer: I Am A Part Of The Society Where Loving Is A Crime

Aligarh Trailer: I Am A Part Of The Society Where Loving Is A Crime

The Delhi High Court had repealed the draconian Section 377 (which criminalises sexual activities "against the order of nature", including homosexual acts) in the year 2009, which became a great day of liberation and a big day in the history of democracy. But to the disappointment of the LGBTQI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex) community and the activists protesting in the favour of the law, the Supreme Court rolled back the order in the year 2013 declaring that the Delhi High Court does not have a say in the matter and it should be left to the jurisdiction of the Parliament.

Addressing the subject of "Homosexuality", "Aligarh" is one such story where a professor faces humiliation, at the hands of the society and the university, for being gay. This is a heartbreaking and a strongly moving story of Professor Siras, who is forced to exit the college premises for violating the rules and propagating wrongdoings. However, while the "world" is against him, a young journalist tries to understand his "world".

The trailer shows glimpses of his life in bits and pieces and how he becomes the centre of all the controversy, not because he is homosexual but because we are a homophobic lot.

Directed by the Hansal Mehta, the film has already got into its share of controversy due to obvious reasons and is likely to hit the theaters on 26th February 2016.
