One of the finest actors in the country, Vidya Balan has consistently awed us with her roles and such has been her talent that she has defied the regressive gender position that the actresses usually face. Her 2012 movie Kahaani was a perfect example of that. Not only was she was in the central role in the movie but given the film's stupendous success, it was clear that there are signs of hope for the industry.

BEGUM JAAN

Set in the partition period of 1947, the actress will play the role of a brothel owner. The film is the remake of 2015's Bengali film Rajkahini and will also star Gauahar Khan, Naseeruddin Shah and Ila Arun.

The film is scheduled for release on April 14, 2017.

KABALI SPIN-OFF

The actress is reportedly on the verge of signing the spin-off of Rajnikanth's last film Kabali. According to reports, the spin-off will be directed by Ranjith who directed the last film and will be produced by Dhanush.

No release date of the film has been revealed yet.

TUMHARI SULU

Produced by T-Series, the actress will be seen as a radio jockey (RJ) named Sulochana, lovingly called Sulu, in this light-hearted comedy film. The film will be directed by Suresh Trivani. In a statement the actress revealed: “Sulu is like that nimbu (lemon)… you add nimbu for taste or then add it to balance taste; zesty and versatile! I think she will unleash my naughty side."

The film will reportedly release on December 1, 2017.
