The IIFA Crap You Didn't Notice In The Last 10 Years!

The IIFA Crap You Didn't Notice In The Last 10 Years!

When you as a kid used to invite your friends for your birthday party, you knew at the back of your mind that your friends are going to buy you some gifts, so it’s important you oblige them with a sweet return gift! If by any chance the generous thought didn’t cross your mind, your parents made sure to entertain the guests who had taken their time out to come to your party.

Indian award ceremonies work on the exact same theory! You’re taking your timeout to attend, perform or host an award ceremony, how on earth could you go home empty handed? As we prep up for the 17th edition of IIFA awards to be held in Spain, we bring you how IIFA over the years decided to fu** with your minds.

From having made the most bizarre choices to inventing inexplicable award categories, the event sponsors, organizers and the jury (if any) have made sure to make us go ROFL with their WTF decisions over the years.

Let’s take a trip down that lane:

    4th Edition – 2003

The IIFA Crap You Didn't Notice In The Last 10 Years!

These were the times when the non-existing jury had one job to do. Closely observe how Filmfare has gone about their choices and copy paste the names in their list. Despite that, the jury forgot any mention of Vivek Oberoi who was an overnight sensation for his appealing display of performance in Company, Sathiya and Dum.

    Not even the best debut?

Fresh Faces of the year: John Abraham and Esha Deol!

Outstanding Achievement by an Indian in South Africa – (What is this, a local municipal category?)

Style Diva – Rekha (Because style has no age)

Style Icon – Fardeen (Because style doesn’t discriminate with talent)

    5th Edition – 2004

The IIFA Crap You Didn't Notice In The Last 10 Years!

    Same story, different dates!

    Fresh Face of the years:

Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao – (This is after having given them awards for best debuts male and female too. Looks like some extra trophies got on board)

    Style Diva – Kareena Kapoor

Style Icon – Saif Ali Khan

Because IIFA is all about style, cinema plays a second fiddle!

    6th Edition – 2005

    Try learning this category first:

Global Indian Media Personality Trophy - Aishwarya Rai

What is this some International Parliamentary Summit going on?

    7th Edition - 2006

The IIFA Crap You Didn't Notice In The Last 10 Years!

Most Glamorous Star of the Year – Preity Zinta

Glamourous how? (Yeah because she played a pregnant girl in Salaam Namaste who wanted ice cream at 12 in the night!)

    8th Edition – 2007

The IIFA Crap You Didn't Notice In The Last 10 Years!

Most Glamorous Stars – Hrithik and Aishwarya (Yeah we know you’re bored of this category already)

Creative Person of the Year – Rakesh Roshan (What on earth is this? Is this an annual school event?)

Special Award for Best Adaptation – Vishal Bhardwaj (Yeah, such a waste attempt at trying to copy Hollywood’s style of awards!) These guys have found a way to recognize the inspirations as well!

    9th Edition – 2008

The IIFA Crap You Didn't Notice In The Last 10 Years!

Fresh Face of the Year – Neil Nitin Mukesh

Why? Because Ranbir Kapoor had made his debut in a disaster of a movie and it would have been unfair to not welcome a star kid! So what if Neil has done some good work in Johnny Gaddar, we’re giving you a consolation as Fresh Face, stay happy.

Style Diva/Icon – Katrina Kaif and Abhishek Bachchan (There has to be a way to justify Abhishek’s attendance, how can he keep getting avoided!)

    10th Edition – 2009

Outstanding Achievement in International Cinema - Aishwarya Rai (Because she couldn’t win an award for Jodha Akbar)

Decade Awards: Actor of the decade, Filmmaker of the decade and so on… (More awards the merrier! :))

    11th Edition – 2010

The IIFA Crap You Didn't Notice In The Last 10 Years!

Beat this and we know you cant!

Best Male Debut – Jackky Bhagnani (Guys, so much desperation to please Vashu Bhagnani?)

Green Globe Awards – Vivek Oberoi (Because we’ll sit in our AC rooms, burn out the gasoline, won’t give a sh** to environment but a Go Green award is must!)

Habitat Humanity Ambassadorship Award – Salman Khan (Give bhai an award his fans will spend rest of their lives trying to pronounce it)

Outstanding Achievement in Indian cinema – Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (Because he made a flop like Delhi 6)

Outstanding Achievement in Indian cinema – Zeenat Aman (Because she did Satyam Shivam Sundaram some 30 years back)

Outstanding Achievement in International cinema - Anil Kapoor (Because Slumdog Millionaire - Jhakaas)

    12th Edition – 2011

The IIFA Crap You Didn't Notice In The Last 10 Years!

Best Film – Dabbangg (Because My Name is Khan has got enough awards already, we are on Bhai ki side!)

Best Actress – Anushka Sharma (Vidya Balan has given a feet sweeping performance in Ishqiya but we’ll do something different!)

Best Actor is a Supporting Role – Arjun Rampal (Now take a look at his fellow nominees – Manoj Bajpayi – Rajneeti, Arshad Warsi – Ishqiya, Emraan Hashmi – Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaraa)

Everybody other than Arjun deserved an award in this category!

Best Actress in a Supporting Role – Prachi Desai (The actress who barely had any scenes in the movie and went largely unnoticed has to get an award!)

Green Globe Award – Priyanka Chopra (What is this award given for any way? To make a creative school project?)

Hottest Pair – Anushka and Ranveer (Because Return Gifts)

Outstanding Achievement - Sharmila Tagore (Because lifetime achievement is booked for someone else)

Outstanding International Achievement – Irrfan Khan (Because he’s going to star with Tom Hanks in 2016)

Lifetime Achievement (2 in this case) are over and above :)

    13th Edition – 2012

The IIFA Crap You Didn't Notice In The Last 10 Years!

Best Supporting Actress and Best Female Debut – Parineeti Chopra (Because the categories are reserved under Yashraj quota)

Special Award for Cinema at 100 (Because we respect the elders)

Lifetime Achivement – Rekha (From a style diva to lifetime achievement – this one escalated quickly)

Outstanding Contribution To Environment – Dia Mirza (This one sounded like Dia prevented earth from hitting a meteor)

Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema – Male

Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema - Female

    Outstanding Contribution to International Cinema

Are these people even realizing they have stopped making any sense at all?

Hottest Pair – Ranbir and Nargis (Even if she can’t act, she is hot)

    14th Edition – 2013

The IIFA Crap You Didn't Notice In The Last 10 Years!

2012 was a very good year for cinema at large with a lot of quality movies but the IIFA didn’t care about it at all!

Best Actress in a Supporting Role – Anushka Sharma (Because Jab Tak Hai Jaan is a Yashraj movie, who cares for movies like Gangs of Wasseypur 1 and 2?)

Also take a look at this:

    Best Film – Barfi

    Best Director – Barfi

    Best Actor – Barfi

    Best Story – Barfi

    Best Music – Barfi

    Best Background Music – Barfi

    Best Sound Design – Barfi

    Best Cinematography – Barfi

    Best Costumes – Barfi

    Best Make Up – Barfi

    Best Production Design – Barfi

    Best Screenplay – Barfi

    Best Sound Mixing – Barfi

    Best Sound Recording – Barfir

We understand Barfi was a well-made film but did the jury somehow forgot the year saw a number of other releases like Kahaani, English Vinglish, Talaash and Wasseypur 1 and 2 as well?

    15th Edition – 2014

The IIFA Crap You Didn't Notice In The Last 10 Years!

3 out of 6 nominations for Best Actress went to Deepika Padukone!  Needless to guess she also won it!

Best Supporting Actor – Aditya Roy Kapor (Now take a look at the nominations – Anupam Kher – Speical 26, Nawazuddin Siddique – The Lunchbox, Pawan Malhotra – Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Saurabh Shukla – Jolly LLB)

EVERYBODY other than Aditya deserved this award but the jury gives two hoots to who really deserves it, Aditya is cute, Saurabh and Anupam are bald old men!

Best Villain – Rishi Kapoor for Aurangzeb (The film that people aren’t even aware existed won Rishi Kapoor the best villain award)

Entertainer of the year – Deepika Padukone AGAIN (After giving her 3 nominations out of 6 for Best Actress, Handing over the trophy, this was just not enough!)

    16th Edition – 2015

The IIFA Crap You Didn't Notice In The Last 10 Years!

Outstanding Contribution to International Cinema – Subhash Ghai

The showman who stopped making Hindi movies because audiences had already given up on him gets an award for outstandingly contributing to global cinema – Bizarre!

IIFA Woman of the year – Deepika Padukone (Exactly what does the jury want? If she doesn’t win the best actress award, a mandatory category has to be created to justify her travelling all the way!)

In case you're wondering how the jury is going to fu** up this year, we're pleased to inform they have done it already.

What does IIFA stand for again? Indian International FUNNY Awards!
