The hotly-anticipated film is due to release on June 17th and would be tackling the issue of drug problem in the state of Punjab. From a killer soundtrack to a stunning star-cast, the film has created buzz for all the right reasons so far.

But the film's makers have come under pressure now. Some reports have suggested that film could face upto 40 cuts, including any number of abusive slurs and visual representations of drug usage. A song has also been asked to be removed by the CBFC.

As per the filmmakers, the drug usage and use of expletives is necessary to the film. Shahid Kapoor, who plays the role of a rockstar with a drug problem, is the central character of the film which has been made to show the rising drug problem in Punjab.

According to sources, Anurag Kashyap, who is a producer of the film, is trying to contact I&B Ministry to have the ban lifted. Kashyap, whose films frequently run into trouble with the Censor Board, will try to use his experience in these matters.

The Censor Board which already has bothered films like Aligarh and The Jungle Book this year, is now threatening the release of Udta Punjab.
