5 Major Snubs Of Filmfare Awards 2019 That Really Made Us Sad

5 Major Snubs Of Filmfare Awards 2019 That Really Made Us Sad

It’s the award season in Bollywood and god knows we are excited! Recently, the biggest and the most prestigious award in Bollywood, Filmfare Awards felicitated the best in Hindi cinema. From the last year itself, Filmfare has finally got out of star obsession and have actually gone ahead and recognized merit irrespective of star value or commercial success. This year, too, we are joyous to witness Filmfare giving awards to artistes like Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao in Leading categories.

However, we noticed a few snubs this year as well, that made us a little unhappy. Here are the ones we are talking about.

    Amit Trivedi for Manmarziyaan

5 Major Snubs Of Filmfare Awards 2019 That Really Made Us Sad

Diverse and original, Manmarziyaan was a musical album that was probably one of the very best we have heard in a few years. Amit Trivedi crafted a wholesome album with foot-tapping party numbers and soulful melody and totally floored us with his talent in a day and age when remakes seem to be the only thing that music directors are capable of. While winner Sanjay Leela Bhansali surely did a splendid job in Padmaavat with the songs, we personally feel Amit Trivedi deserved it for Manmarziyaan way more than SLB did for Padmaavat.

Niladri Kumar, Joi Barua and Alif for Laila Majnu

5 Major Snubs Of Filmfare Awards 2019 That Really Made Us Sad

Some of you who have heard the soulful and authentic melodies in Laila Majnu would swear by the fact that the music of the film was an absolute delight.  Composed by Niladri Kumar, Joi Barua, and Alif, Laila Majnu’s music was a total revelation. Forget an award, Laila Majnu not even being in the nominations for the Best Musical Album was totally disappointing.

Abhay Jodhpurkar for Mere Naam Tu (Zero)

5 Major Snubs Of Filmfare Awards 2019 That Really Made Us Sad

Yes, we all love Arijit Singh and yes, Ae Watan fills us with pride and emotion every time we hear it. But, if we look from a very objective point of view, Mere Naam Tu from Zero was perhaps a more complex composition by Ajay-Atul that was executed with magical finesse by Abhay Jodhpurkar. In fact, the song was perhaps the only good thing about the eyesore of the movie that was Zero. And, maybe its time Filmfare starts encouraging newer and fresher musical talents, we already know Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal are legendary singers.

    Radhika Madan for Pataakha

5 Major Snubs Of Filmfare Awards 2019 That Really Made Us Sad

No, we are not entering the nepotism debate zone. We absolutely adore Sara Ali Khan and even Janhvi did a great job in Dhadak. But if we look at the complexities of the characters being played by the debutante, Radhika Madan had a far more difficult role in Patakhaa than Sara had in Kedarnath, that she played to sheer perfection. Before you argue that she has been a television actress and thus more experienced, let us remind you that when Diljit Dosanjh won the Best Debut award for Udta Punjab he was also an established star of Punjabi cinema.

    Rishi Kapoor For Mulk

5 Major Snubs Of Filmfare Awards 2019 That Really Made Us Sad

This one, personally, confused me the most. Ever since Agneepath, we have come to love the second innings of Rishi Kapoor in Bollywood and his performance par excellence in meaty characters in quality films. This year, as well, he floored us with his performance in  Mulk. Thus it was surprising, that even his name was not on the nomination list. Yes, we agree Ayushmann Khurrana totally deserved the Best Actor award in the Critics category for Andhadhun, but that does not mean that Rishi Kapoor did not even deserve a nomination in the same category for his exceptional performance in Mulk
