Golden Globes 2021 Get A New Date After Postponement, To Be Held On 28 February

Much like many of the events this year the Golden Globes 2021 have also been postponed due to the ongoing coronvirus pandemic. Usually the opener of the awards season in Hollywood, Golden Globes are commonly known to be held on the first Sunday of January.

The ceremony will now be held on February 28, 2021, in Beverly Hills with its previously announced hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association said Monday. The date was formerly occupied by the Academy Awards which have also been moved ahead by two months.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had also moved the eligibility window to February 28, 2021, for feature films instead of the calendar year. The Academy announced the new date for the awards night to be April 25 while the Globes jumped on the February date the Oscars had previously held.

The Golden Globes, set in a hotel ballroom that's arranged more like an oversized dinner party with drinks than a formal ceremony, positions itself as the freewheeling start to awards season.

Exactly which movies and TV shows will be eligible for honours remains to be seen, given the virus-caused delay in production and movie theater screenings that's only now easing.

Organisers said they will provide guidance on eligibility, the voting period, and the timing of the nominations announcement but didn't specify when. The ceremony will air on NBC.
