2016 was a disappointing year for sequels with only one bonafide hit, Housefull 3. However, 2017 has turned out to be a lot better. Yes, there have been a few failures too [Sarkar 3, Aksar 2, Julie 2]. Still, by and large it has been a much more productive year for the sequels than ever before.

We bring to fore some of the top sequel successes of 2017.

Baahubali - The Conclusion [511 crores]

The 'baap' of all sequels by all means, Baahubali - The Conclusion has emerged as the 'Baahu-Buster' of films across all languages. Just the Hindi version of the film managed to set records for the biggest opening weekend, first week and then the lifetime score, something that could well go unparalleled for many more months to come at the least. The film has grown massively when compared to the first one.

Tiger Zinda Hai [275 crore+ (expected)]

Ek Tha Tiger had done quite well and fell short of 200 crore by just 1 crore. Now the sequel has moved ahead leaps and bounds by setting the record for the best opening weekend when it comes to a Bollywood film. The film is pacing well towards the 200 Crore Club already and at the very minimum, it will go past the 275 crore mark. It would be quite a surprise in fact if the film doesn't enter the 300 Crore Club.

    Golmaal Again [205.71 crores]

Each of the three Golmaal flicks, be it it Golmaal, Golmaal Returns or Golmaal 3 had emerged as a Hit at the Box Office. Hence it was a given that Golmaal Again would also create some 'dhamaal' at the Box Office on its Diwali release. However what the film did was something out of the world as it not just set the record for the best opening day (till Tiger Zinda Hai came) but also marched into the 200 Crore Club.

    Judwaa 2 [138.61 crores]

A couple of decades back when Judwaa had hit the screens, it had done quite well at the Box Office. Hence when Sajid Nadiadwala and David Dhawan joined hands all over again to put together a 'reboot' version of the film with Varun Dhawan as the latest entrant, audiences were more than happy to comply. The film took off quite well with two chartbuster songs and today's generation welcomed it all with glee too.

    Jolly LLB 2 [117 crores]

Subhash Kapoor, Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla had delivered a clean Hit with Jolly LLB a few years back. With Akshay Kumar coming on board, the franchise turned out to be even bigger and that reflected in the opening as well as lifetime collections that ended up being almost thrice of Jolly LLB. The film's success has set up this Subhash Kapoor franchise well and rest assured there would be Jolly LLB 3 coming soon.

    Badrinath Ki Dulhania [116.60 crores]

Baahubali 2, Tiger Zinda Hai, Golmaal Again And More - A Good Year For Big Ticket Entertainer Sequels

When Karan Johar , Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Shashank Khaitan came together for Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania , the film did quite well to emerge a Superhit. The second in franchise, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, turned out to be even better by not just entering the 100 Crore Club but covering a larger distance as well. The film boasted of quite a few chartbuster songs and 'Tamma Tamma' has stayed on to be a rage.

    Fukrey Returns [77 crore+ (expected)]

Baahubali 2, Tiger Zinda Hai, Golmaal Again And More - A Good Year For Big Ticket Entertainer Sequels

Not many actually expected Fukrey Returns to emerge as a Superhit. The film was supposed to arrive sometime between Padmavati and Tiger Zinda Hai due to which from the release schedule perspective it was pretty squeezed. However, the makers were confident about the film's content and once Padmavati was postponed, floodgates opened for this Mrighdeep Lamba directed sequel. Result? A very good success.
