All The Reasons Why The Pamavat Might Struggle At The Box Office Despite Being A Solo Release

Padmavat has been through a sea of trouble before it is eventually heading for a solo release this Republic Day weekend. Akshay Kumar came to the film’s rescue and postponed his social drama PadMan to February 9 to avoid a clash after Sanjay Leela Bhansali requested him to do so.

The solo release of Padmavat post the clearance by the censor board on a long weekend might sound like a huge sigh of relief but the troubles have not yet ended for the film. With a ban on CBFC Chief Prasoon Joshi in Rajasthan to Sanjay Leela Bhansali permanently banned from shooting in the state, the controversy saga continues.

All The Reasons Why The Pamavat Might Struggle At The Box Office Despite Being A Solo Release

With all these troubles in row here’s all the reasons why Padmavat might fail even after being a solo release.

A ban by states – The states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana said a big no to allow Padmavat's release but the Supreme Court overturned the decision and has cleared the film for release across India. Sadly that makes the film more prone to vandalism and violence in theatres in these states.

Single theatres refusing to release it – The single-screen theatres in Gujrat are terrified and have refused to screen the film owing to all controversies and vandalism scare. With nearly a week to its release, it can easily be the case in other states as well which would give it fewer screens despite being a single screen.

Expectations way too high – The whole controversy began after it was speculated that Bhansali has shown scenes between Alauddin Khilji and Rani Padmavati that set the Rajput community to see red. He refuted it but still, the content is deemed controversial. On the other hand, the trailer set the bars too high on performances and the story. After all this hype and controversy if the film disappoints it would be a big roar of negative publicity.

The budget – The film is made on an extravagant budget of 200 cores that makes it necessary for it to make at least 350 crores to be a super hit. Given the obstacles, it seems highly likely that the film will have to struggle hard to get there.

It is a delayed release  - The track record of delayed releases in Bollywood isn’t very good to be honest. The films have suffered the brunt of pushing release dates no matter what the reasons. Take Jagga Jasoos last year for example. The film is highly prone to piracy as well especially given the controversial stature.
