5 Big Box Office Records That Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan Starrer Thugs Of Hindostan Is Expected To Shatter

In less than 10 days from now. Thugs of Hindostan would be hitting the screens. A big budget extravaganza by Yash Raj Films which is helmed by Vijay Krishna Acharya (who had delivered an All Time Blockbuster with Aamir Khan last in the form of Dhoom: 3), this one is a true-blue multi-starrer with Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif leading the show.

The film is a Diwali release and arriving a day after the festival on Thursday. While it is pretty much a given that the film would take the best opening of the year while surpassing Sanju [34.74 crore], it is not just about how this biggie does in comparison with the movies that have released in 2018. Competition would be with the biggest of the biggest of all time and hence these are the records that the film would be chasing.

Best opening day

There are only three films that have managed to surpass the 40 crore mark on their day of release - Happy New Year [44.97 crore, including Tamil and Telugu], Baahubali 2 [41 crore, only the Hindi version] and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo [40.35 crore]. While a 50 crore start would be just perfect for Thugs of Hindostan, nothing less than 45 crore is what the film would settle for.

Best opening weekend

Neither Happy New Year nor Prem Ratan Dhan Payo could replicate the success of their opening day on the next two days. However, Baahubali 2 [Hindi] did by bringing in 128 crores. It also stays on to be the biggest till date. This is followed by Sanju and Tiger Zinda Hai, both of which started in the 30s on their opening day but then went from strength to strength over the weekend by bringing in 120.06 crore and 114.93 respectively. It has to be seen if Thugs of Hindostan goes past this huge milestone in its first three days.

Best opening week

When it came to the best opening week, Sanju was replaced by Sultan which brought in a huge number of 208.82 crore. While Tiger Zinda Hai was a little behind with 206.04 crore coming in, Baahubali 2 [Hindi] was just tremendous at 247 crore. It would be a huge feat indeed if Thugs of Hindostan actually manages to even come close to this number as it would be one feat that dreams are made of.

Best lifetime

This is where matters would get further interesting because Aamir Khan factor would come into play. He is the only Khan who is yet to touch 30 crore when it comes to opening day number. Yet he has two 300 crore All Time Blockbusters behind him in the form of Dangal and PK. In fact his Dangal [387.38 crore] is in Top-3 and this is one record that he would like to break with Thugs of Hindostan. This year's release Sanju is just behind with 342.53 crore as the lifetime number. However, Baahubali 2 is on a different planet altogether with 511 crore as its final tally.

All said and done, there is a lot at stake when it comes to Thugs of Hindostan and considering the fact that it is an action-oriented fantasy film with a star-studded appeal, the opening day number would pretty much decide the course of an eventual lifetime that it would enjoy.
