Bollywood Report Card: Here's How Ajay Devgn's Diwali Releases Have Fared At The Box Office In The Past Decade

Festive releases in Bollywood are vogue and seem to be getting good business for the films at the box office. The superstars of Bollywood including Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn have dominated the popular festivals in the country for the past decade and Diwali by far has been the most popular festival for getting the audiences to the theatres.

 Ajay Devgn has a strong affinity towards the festival of lights and is coming up with yet another film this Diwali that is Golmaal Again. The last film of the franchise, Golmaal 3, released in 2010 on Diwali and was a blockbuster. So while we wait to see the fate of Golmaal Again in Diwali 2017, here’s how Ajay Devgn’s Diwali record has been so far in the past decade.

Golmaal Returns - 29 Oct 2008

The second film of the Golmaal franchise that also starred Kareena Kapoor was a HIT with the audiences. The Rohit Shetty film grossed Rs. 51.1 crores at the box office and was loved by the fans.

All The Best - Fun Begins - 16 Oct 2009

Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn teamed up for yet another comedy the following Diwali in 2009 and brought All The Best. The multi starrer film also had Fardeen Khan and Sanjay Dutt but it sadly was not a hit as was expected of the hit comedy duo. The film fared AVERAGE and grossed Rs. 41.4 crores.

Golmaal 3 – 5 November 2010

Ajay Devgn and  Rohit Shetty came back a third time in a row on Diwali in 2010. This time it was Golmaal 3 and the film turned out to be bigger than what most would have imagined. A BLOCKBUSTER, Golmaal 3 earned Rs. 108 crores at the box office.

Son Of Sardaar – 13 November 2012

Ajay continued his comic streak with Son of Sardaar for which he was also a producer. The film also starred Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha and was directed by Ashwini Dhir. It was another HIT in Ajay’s kitty and collected Rs. 88.6 crores at the box office.

Shivaay – 28 October 2016

Ajay tried something new for Diwali 2016 as he released his own directorial action drama Shivaay. The film had amazing visual effects and jaw-dropping action sequences by the actor but only fared AVERAGE at the box office with 100.35 crores.

So going by Ajay Devgn’s Diwali report card, comedies have proven to be his strength on Diwali and especially the films from the Golmaal franchise. He will certainly continue his hit Golmaal streak this year, as well as Golmaal Again, releases on 20 October 2017.
