Ayushmann Khurranna Scores His Triple Hattrick With Dream Girl, Ready For His Second 100 Crore Club Film After Badhaai Ho

Ayushmann Khurranna is a star for sure, and now he is further entering the big league with consistently good openings at the box office. If his classy offbeat niche film Article 15 managed an opening of 5.02 crores on its first day, his massy out and out commercial comedy entertainer Dream Girl has now done double of that with 10.05 crores coming in on Friday.

Starting from Bareilly Ki Barfi [2.42 crores] which began the good run for Ayushmann Khurranna commercially, the actor's stocks have anyways gone up with every passing film. Shubh Mangal Savdhan [2.71 crores] did even better and then went on to become a good success on the power of word of mouth. Later, Andhadhun had an almost similar opening [2.70 crores] but then the word of mouth was best ever for an Ayushmann Khurranna, as evidenced by manifold increase in collections that the film enjoyed with a lifetime score reaching a huge 75.60 crores.

His highest grosser though stays on to be the film that followed, Badhaai Ho, which collected 138 crores in its lifetime and emerged as a blockbuster no less. In fact this is the film that Dream Girl would be competing with and the common factor here is that both films are as massy as it gets. In fact if one looks at the milieu, ambience, dialect, stage and set up of the two films then Dream Girl could well have been presented as second in the franchise of Badhaai Ho, and audiences wouldn't have minded that at all.

Ayushmann has been making his choices intelligently as he ensured that to cushion the release of Article 15, which was a dicey subject and could have gone either ways, he planned the arrival of Dream Girl - a sure shot success in the making - soon after. It is a different matter though that Article 15 too emerged as a solid hit with a lifetime score of 65.45 crores. However, now the onus is on Dream Girl to perform really well as the critical acclaim is there and so is the audience word of mouth, something which is great news for all associated with the film.

Moreover, what makes Ayushmann Khurranna's run further special is the fact that there is Bala coming next, the teaser of which has already made a mark. From impersonating a female in Dream Girl, he would now be playing a bald man in the Dinesh Vijan production. The film is a light hearted entertainer again, and so would be Shubh Mangal Zyaada Savdhaan, second in the franchise of Shubh Mangal Savdhaan, where he plays a gay man. In between there is Gulabo Sitabo as well which pairs him with Amitabh Bachchan no less with Shoojit Sircar as the director.

The man is indeed on a roll and while a double hat-trick has already been scored, he could well be aiming for a triple hat-trick now after Bala, Gulabo Sitabo and Shubh Mangal Zayaada Savdhaan.

Opening day collections of Ayushmann Khurranna's triple hat-trick successes:

    Dream Girl - 10.05 crores
