14 Bollywood Films That Sold Over 1 Crore Tickets & Still Couldn't Be Called Hits

Imagine being the producer of a film that sells over a crore tickets at the counters and still fails to be called a hit. Such was the brutality of 90s. Tickets were cheap, multiplexes were far & few and if your product didn’t warrant enough entertainment, even a crore people showing up at theaters wasn’t enough.

Selling 100 million box office tickets is a big big deal today given the sky rocketing ticket prices we have to afford. Avenues of entertainment are plenty and getting people to watch a film in theaters is an accomplishment in itself.

Swallow this for a fact: The only occurrence of a film failing to be a hit despite selling over a crore tickets in the last decade and a half is Tubelight. The Salman Khan starrer that did manage to acquire 1.15 crore footfalls in 2017 couldn’t yield profits to enter the safe zone. Anyway, since these stats seemed interesting, we thought of looking at the data of the last two decades. As it turns out, there are more than 10 films that failed (box office wise) despite managing to get over a 100 million people in theaters.
