A Kangana-Hrithik Clash At The Box-Office Was A Bad Idea To Begin With And Should Be Avoided At All Costs In The Foreseeable Future

Why Mental Hai Kya And Super 30 Clash Was A Bad Idea To Begin With

The Hrithik-Kangana controversy is in its fourth year now (Yes it’s been that long) and it looks like there is going to be no relief from all the mudslinging and maligning statements in the near future as well.  The nature of the controversy is unlike anything that we have ever seen in the past with Kangana Ranaut claiming that she actually dated the actor and Hrithik claiming that he did not. While even the Cyber Cell gave up trying to verify the facts, there is no way that we the common folks will know who to support. In this absurd situation, both parties have made some pretty serious allegations about each other but the only saving grace has been that they never let it affect their professional standing and the matter was strictly personal.

Given the recent turn of events where the whole issue resurrected out of nowhere, we nearly escaped a whole lot of drama (not that it is not happening now) from the high voltage box office clash that Mental Hai Kya and Super 30 could have been. It is to be noted that this is not the first time Hrithik has averted a clash of Super 30 with Kangana Ranaut. The Super 30 makers had plans of releasing the film on Republic Day 2019, the same holiday which was also announced as the delayed release date of Kangana’s directorial debut Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi. Super 30 then quietly moved on to fix a release date of 26 July. Mental Hai Kya, on the other hand, which also stars Rajkummar Rao ( if anyone forgets about him in this controversy mode) was to release on June 21. Ekta Kapoor then went on to announce that Mental Hai Kya will be postponed to clash with Super 30 on July 26.

While the Balaji Motion Pictures producer maintained that postponing Mental Hai Kya from June to July was a strategic discussion and promised there would be no mudslinging, we say, she should have known better. Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli took to Twitter to challenge Hrithik the very next day and the actor issued a statement saying that he will postpone Super 30 to preserve his dignity.

We have seen so many exes in Bollywood move on after a terrible break-up, some amicably so and some not so amicably, but in the case of Kangana and Hrithik we are not even sure if there was a relationship to begin with, upon which this whole controversy is based. While it would have been better for the sanity of both the actors to move on to a better life, we are not sure who this war of words which has been going on for an eternity now will benefit. To make it evidently clear, we love these two stars for being incredibly gifted artists and while we definitely enjoy high voltage box office clashes every once in a while, this is one we would definitely avoid because of the insurmountable personal baggage that tags along with it.

Kangana Ranaut has been fearless in answering questions on this very personal matter on every opportunity that presented itself, even during the promotions of her film Simran which released in 2017. Just for a second, shut your eyes and imagine what the promotions of both Mental Hai Kya and Super 30 would look like these films decided to clash? At some point, the work of all the makers and producers and other artists would have been thrown out of the window and there would just be talks about some controversy that nobody can prove! Two potentially promising films getting drowned under the weight of the personal vengeance of two big Bollywood stars would have been fair to nobody.

Of course, significant damage has already been done by even suggesting the clash and the hangover of it will live on till Mental Hai Kya releases on July 26 and Super 30 releases sometime a month after that, but we are still glad that it was averted before any further damage was to happen. As for Hrithik and Kangana, we hope that at some point in the future these beloved Bollywood stars find the will to move on and not be poked to bring up this controversy in professional affairs, but till then let’s not have any producer even imagine a box-office clash between these stars.
