Sanju Is The Succes Story That Ranbir Kapoor Was In Dire Need Of

Of all things Sanju would be remembered for in future, Ranbir’s performance is perhaps the most remarkable reason why we would remember the film.

While both critics and audience cannot find enough words to praise Sanju’s superlative portrayal of Sanjay Dutt, on a personal level, Sanju is a career revival of sorts for Ranbir and hit that he was in desperate need of.

Although Ranbir is one star whose stardom is not affected by flops, but major disappointments like Bombay Talkies or Jagga Jasoos made it look like his career and stardom was hanging in balance by a thread. After a slew of major flops, Ranbir could not have surely afforded another flop.

Another major reason what Sanju was a make or break for Ranbir was Rajkumar Hirani. In the last couple of years, all the films with major directors like Anurag Kashyap or Anurag Basu have tanked at the box-office. In fact, apart from Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, all the flops of Ranbir’s career in the last few years have been directed by some of the biggest directors in the industry. In a situation like this, letting down Raju Hirani and being responsible for his first flop would have been a death blow to his career, probably, he could not have revived from.

The element in Bollywood is also a major reason why Sanju had to work in favor of Ranbir. When he started out, he was in a zone of his own without much competition. Nobody compared him with the Khans and the Kumar, because that would be unfair, and at the same time, none of his contemporaries were as good or popular as him. But now, with Varun’s unbreakable success record and Ranveer’s soaring popularity and iconic performances, this is probably for the first time that Ranbir is facing the heat of competition.

As fans of good cinema, we could not be happier about the kind of response that Sanju has been getting, but as fans of Ranbir Kapoor it is of great relief that Sanju became the phenomenon it became, otherwise we would have, probably, lost one of the most talented actors of the industry, as Sanju was one hit that Ranbir was in desperate need of.
