These Are The Only Times In 21st Century That Aamir Khan Failed At The Box Office

These Are The Only Times In 21st Century That Aamir Khan Failed At The Box Office

He is the biggest star, Mr. Perfectionist of Bollywood and an absolute magician at the box-office- we are talking about none other than Aamir Khan. The man has created every record in Bollywood only to shatter it himself. From being the pioneer of 100, 200, 300 crores club in Bollywood to garnering unprecedented overseas, he has never looked back in his career, especially after the dawn of the 21st century.

However, the box-office of Bollywood has its way with every star, no matter how big they are and Aamir is no exception either. Although he has had probably the most enviable box-office record in Bollywood, here are a few films that proved even Aamir can fail at the box-office, that too in post-2000.

    Mela (2000)

These Are The Only Times In 21st Century That Aamir Khan Failed At The Box Office

Aamir Khan started the millennium on a not so happy note. Starring both the Khan brothers, Aamir and Faisal Khan opposite Twinkle Khanna, Mela was a disaster of epic proportions. From the over the top performance that bordered on caricature to the threadbare plot, Mela almost features in the so bad that its good list. Definitely not something you expect from an Aamir Khan.

    Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005)

These Are The Only Times In 21st Century That Aamir Khan Failed At The Box Office

This was another major disappointment of Aamir Khan that still haunts us. Based on the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny, the film had every ingredient of being a blockbuster including a star cast that included names like Aamir Khan and Rani Mukerji and music by A.R. Rahman. But the film could not ‘rise’ despite all of it and became a dent on Aamir’s filmography.

    Dhobi Ghat (2011)

Aamir’s wife directorial debut was hardly what people expected. Kiran Rao tried to paint a picture of the city of Mumbai in all its messy glory, but the film turned out to be too niche for a box-office success. The film received raving reviews from the critics and film lovers but did not make the cash registers ring at the box-office window.

Talaash: The Truth Lies Within (2012)

These Are The Only Times In 21st Century That Aamir Khan Failed At The Box Office

Yet another film that tanked despite a stupendous star cast. Who would have thought that a film featuring Aamir Khan, Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor would fail at the box-office? But despite being a decent thriller in most parts, the film had the worst ending that anyone could have thought of. This was probably one of the reasons why Talaash suffered a case of bad word of mouth and did not live up to the expectations that people usually have from Aamir Khan films.

     Thugs Of Hindostan (2018)

These Are The Only Times In 21st Century That Aamir Khan Failed At The Box Office

The term debacle was probably invented to define this movie. The most expensive film of Bollywood, the coming together of legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan for the first time and the trio of Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Vijay Krishna Acharya who have previously given a hit film like Dhoom 3- staked were truly high on Thugs Of Hindostan. However, thanks to a laughable script and even more laughable direction, the film would probably be remembered as the biggest fiasco of Bollywood.
