Avinash Tiwary And Tripti Dimri’s Laila Majnu Trailer Looks Suprisingly Potent

After Rishi Kapoor and Ranjeeta in 1976, Bollywood is back with another re-telling of the age-old tale of star-crossed lovers in Laila Majnu. However, this time the story will unfold on the backdrop of crisis-ridden Kashmir and has new lesser-known faces, Avinash Tiwary and Tripti Dimri. Directed by Sajid Ali, this re-telling of Laila Majnu also has Imtiaz Ali, his ex-wife Preety Ali and Ekta Kapoor producing the film and will hot the screens on 7th September, 2018. Here are our takeaways from the trailer.

A New Angle In The Age-Old Tale

The legend of Laila Majnu has been told and re-told for a number of times that we cannot even count. Even on-screen there have been several adaptations in different languages and in Hindi itself and although the essence of the legend looks same, it looks like director Sajid Ali has few tricks up his sleeves and added certain contemporary angles to this old-legend.

Terrific Cinematography

It is no secret that cinematographers love Kashmir and even in this trailer the picturesque frames are well executed. The landscapes are dreamy and have an element of surreal beauty to them that is breathtaking.

Surprisingly Striking Performances

Both Avinash Tiwary and Tripti Dimri, who play the lead are relatively new faces. Avinash is mostly remembered for his role in Amitabh Bachchan’s Yudh and Tripti was last seen in Poshter Boys opposite Shreyas Talpade. However, the performances look actually quite convincing and they are truly selling certain really dramatic bits in the trailer with a performance that look quite mature.

The Twist Looks Interesting

The trailer starts off with a boy meets girl love story and looks fun. We quite love the fact that the girl is introduced to be a flirt and boy agrees that he works hard to be smart because he is not too good looking. The trailer also gives a sneak peek into the life of Kashmiri youth in a normal light which is quite a rare sight in Bollywood. But halfway through the trailer, the film gets much darker and the family feud between two lovers on the backdrop Kashmir’s crisis situation adds an interesting twist.

The Music Strikes A Chord

The music of the film sounds pretty interesting too. The Laila track has a unique tone to it that captures the wild abandon and the madness of the two characters. Another track used in the trailer Hafiz Hafiz also packs quite a punch and we can expect some unexpected good music from the film.
