Choked Trailer: Anurag Kashyap Spins A Series Around Demonetization, Will Saiyami Kher Be Able To Pay The Price?

How many times have you heard stuff like ‘paisa haathon ka mail hai’ or ‘money can’t buy happiness’? Well, as good as these might sound, we are all striving to make money and sustain ourselves in the world where money not just gives stability but also power and respect amongst peers. So what if, one day, you find money pouring in, literally in your kitchen sink? And then you wake up one day to realize the money is invalid?

Well, that’s the situation that Saiyami Kher’s character, Sarita Pillai would be facing in choked. Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the series would be against the backdrop of demonitisation and how Saiyyami’s character would have to pay the price for easy money.

The trailer shows that Sarita aka Saiyami is stuck in a world where she has to struggle to meet ends. In the life of aloo ki sabzi, she suddenly finds respite when money flows in through her kitchen sink. This money, which seems to be illegal/ black money, belongs to the man who stays in the floor above theirs! She not just finds happiness but also luxury. But her world comes crushing around when demonetization is declared. Now, she has to pay the price! Will she be able to?

The trailer promises a gripping thriller Anurag, who captures the nerve of darkness that lurks underneath us and in us, falls on what he does best. While the series is about a lower middle class family, he steers away from the hinterlands of Bihar and UP this time! Check out the trailer here:

The series would premiere on 5^th May on Netflix. It will also star Amruta Subhash, Rajshri Despande and Roshan Matthew in major roles.
