Tom Cruise Punches Superman, Hangs From Helicopter And Jumps Across London Buildings In Mission Impossible Fallout Trailer!

The first trailer for Mission: Impossible - Fallout, the sixth film in the veteran action espionage franchise was released on Monday, during the Super Bowl. The two-and-a-half minute trailer gives us our best look at the film, which wasn’t even given a teaser until now.

By the looks of it, Ethan Hunt’s actions over the last couple of decades have caught up with him -- the government that so often throws him under the bus is now being questioned, the family that he has ignored has returned, and the friends who stand by him may be having a crisis of faith.

The trailer plays like a greatest hits version of the franchise, complete with the rock climbing and bike chases from Mission: Impossible II, the political intrigue from the first film, and airborne action from Mission: Impossible -- Rogue Nation.

The showstopper this time is that there doesn’t appear to be one, but at least three action set-pieces in which Tom Cruise has put himself in harm’s way. There’s one in which he seems to be hanging out of a helicopter, another in which he’s jumping across London buildings (he broke his ankle shooting this scene), and then there’s the head-on collision between two trucks (shot from Hunt’s perspective) that is teased right at the end.

Mission: Impossible -- Fallout features a cast full of returning players like Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Sean Harris, Alec Baldwin and Michelle Monaghan. Newcomers include Henry Cavill, Vanessa Kirby and Angela Bassett. The film is scheduled for a July 27 release and is directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who helmed Cruise in the previous MI movie and Jack Reacher.
