    Yash Chopra originally wanted to pursue his career in engineering. His elder brother BR Chopra used to run a production house in Mumbai so he went there and started working with his elder brother. BR Chopra used to give him film making lessons and later they together produced movies like Dhool Ka Phool, Dharmputra, Waqt etc.

    In 1971,  Yash Chopra left brother BR Chopra's home as well as a production company to set up his own venture. He started his own production house in 1971 and his first production was 'Daag' with Rajesh Khanna. That's how the name was formed Yash- Raj (for Rajesh Khanna).

    Yash Chopra encouraged Javed Akhtar to take up lyric writing and thus he started his career as a lyricist with Silsila.
    He made four films with Shahrukh, made many films with Amitabh Bachchan, Sridevi, and Shashi Kapoor and he used to work with these stars many times.


    He has shot in Switzerland so many times that a lake in the Alpenrausch, a favourite shooting spot of his, has been christened Chopra Lake. Also, Jungfrau Railways in Switzerland inaugurated a train named after Yash Chopra. With his signature and name on a signboard, the train was launched by him.

    He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in the year 2005 for his great contribution to Indian film industry.
