People's Reaction To Tanushree Dutta's Allegations Is The Major Reason Why Women Never Speak Up.

People's Reaction To Tanushree Dutta's Allegations Is The Major Reason Why Women Never Speak Up.

Tanushree Dutta, former Miss World and a Bollywood actress who hasn't been active in the industry for quite some time now as she shifted to the U.S.  has recently stirred controversy after her explosive interview.

In the interview, she accused Nana Patekar and Ganesh Acharya of sexual harassment on the sets of Horn OK Please 10 years back. She also made a startling revelation that the entire Bollywood fraternity kept their lips locked despite being aware of the incident.

She added, “Everyone knows about Nana Patekar that he has always been disrespectful towards women. People in the industry know that he has beaten actresses, he has molested them. His behaviour with women has always been crude but no publication has printed anything about it,”

This created kind of an uproar in the industry and several people expressed their views on the allegations. And it is their very views that are downright disgusting and saddening.

The immediate reaction of the people was to slam Tanushree and so they did. Instead of being sympathetic and supportive towards her, they dismissed her allegations as a cheap publicity stunt. Some questioned her for not speaking up for 10 long years while others found this as a tactic which she has used to find her way back into the Bollywood.

People are so sure of Nana Patekar's innocence that they even refuse to consider her claims. After all, Nana Patekar is a well-established name in the industry and a veteran. How could he go wrong is the mentality.

Isn't this whole attitude and mentality towards the accusations of sexual violence deeply saddening and an eye opener for us all?

We are no judges to tell who is right and who is wrong. Nor do we intend to make any such claims.

But, isn't refusing to acknowledge a woman's claims even if it is against somebody famous and powerful downright unfair and wrong?

We aren't asking you to bash Nana Patekar or others accused without proper evidence as such. That would be equally unfair. There's a simple plea to accept the possibility of Tanushree being right. An eyewitness' claim of her being absolutely true should only make you strengthen your support towards her.

Until a couple of days back, Bollywood too kept mum about the incident. They found it easy to let a voice of victim go unheard than find themselves in any unwanted controversy.

Thankfully, a few of them like Farhan Akhtar, Sonam Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Swara Bhaskar have come out in support of Tanushree and this is creating an impact on people's opinions as well. But what needs to be questioned is not if she is right or wrong but our mentality that refuses to acknowledge and admit the claims of a woman against sexual harassment if it is against anyone powerful or known. No wonder, many still don't come out in open and remain tight-lipped about their sufferings in the fear of being judged or questioned.
