    Sonam To Shahid: Bollywood Stars Who Found The Love Of Their Life In Delhi

    Sonam Kapoor is set to tie the knot with her long-time beau, Delhi- based fashion designer, Anand Ahuja , on May 8 in Mumbai. With this, Sonam joins a list of other Bollywood actors who are married to Delhiites. While most of them have now shifted base to Mumbai, it’s interesting to explore how their love stories started and a little more about their Delhi connect.

    Jab they met: The two reportedly met in 2014 through fashion designer Pernia Qureshi, who also happens to be Sonam’s stylist. Apparently, he proposed to Sonam within a month of their first meeting. During their dating period, while none of the two publicly spoke about being in a relationship, their Instagram posts and admiration for each other pretty much convinced everyone that they are in love.

    Delhi connection: Having studied at American Embassy School, Chanakyapuri, he completed his post-graduation from Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Anand interned at Amazon.com in America and then moved back to Delhi and joined his family business, Shahi Exports. Anand owns a plush ‘sher mukhi’ bungalow worth ₹173 crore on Prithviraj Road, which his grandfather bought in 2015. A young entrepreneur, Anand is the CEO and co-founder of Bhane, an apparel manufacturing company. He also owns Veg Non-veg, a multi-brand sneaker boutique in Delhi, besides being the managing director at Shahi Exports.

    Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli – December 11, 2017

    Jab they met: Anushka and Virat met for the first time they were cast together in a TV ad commercial and rumours of them being in a romantic relationship started. Though Anushka never admitted anything in public about her relationship, Virat would often post pictures with her or about her on his social media. After much speculation, they secretly tied the knot, in Tuscany, Italy in presence of close family and friends and later hosted a reception in Delhi and Mumbai.

    Delhi connection: Virat hails from a Punjabi family in Delhi and he attended Vishal Bharti Public School in West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar. It was in 1998 when nine-year-old Kohli started getting trained at the West Delhi Cricket Academy. His family was living in Paschim Vihar’s posh Meera Bagh area until 2015 before they shifted to Gurgaon. Though Virat now travels across the world for his cricket tournaments, Kohli has admitted on various occasions that he’s still a Delhi boy at heart — from Rajouri Garden’s chole bhature to his typical bhangra dance moves.

    Jab they met: Several hearts skipped a beat when Bollywood’s heartthrob Shahid Kapoor announced his wedding to Delhi-based student Mira Rajput, an absolute non celebrity and 14 years younger to him. The two met at Radha Swami Satsang in Beas, a religious group that both families are members of. After an arranged setup, the two had a simple gurdwara wedding followed by a reception in the Capital.

    Delhi Connection: While’s Mira family originally hails from Punjab, she has lived in Delhi’s Chhatarpur area. After attending Vasant Valley School in South Delhi, she completed her graduation in English Honors from Delhi University’s Lady Shri Ram College and even ranked 10 in Delhi University’s Common Admission Test in English (CATE). Mira later did her internship with United Nations and even went to Singapore in an exchange program.

    Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha - October 18, 2014

    Jab they met: This love story started when Sahil went to Dia’s house, for the first time, for narrating the script of a film. Though they started dating in 2009, the formal proposal happened in 2014 when they were in New York to attend an award function. Reportedly, Sahil went down on his knees and proposed to Dia right in the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge and when Dia said yes, everyone present on the bridge including the tourists, cheered for them. They took the vows in an Arya Samaj wedding that took place in a posh farmhouse in Ghitorni, Delhi.

    Delhi connection: Hailing from a Sikh family in Delhi, Sahil’s family house is in Greater Kailash, in South Delhi. He did his schooling from Springdales, Dhaula Kuan before he went to New York for higher studies. A trained marketing and advertising professional, he has worked at ‘Random House’, the largest trade-book publisher. He also worked with Sunil Manchanda of MAD Films and then turned an assistant director for the film Salaam-e- Ishq . Presently, Sahil is a filmmaker and a co-owns a production company called Born Free Entertainment , with Dia and Zayed Khan . Their first production venture was Love Breakups Zindagi in 2011 that also marked Sahil’s directorial debut.

    Jab they met: Akshay Kumar who played the cupid when he introduced his Housefull 2 co-star Asin to his good friend Rahul. The couple dated for almost four years before they got married. Reportedly, Rahul proposed to Asin by creating a treasure hunt in the presidential suite of a luxury hotel and at the end of it, he proposed to her with a ₹6 crore solitaire ring designed by Farah Ali Khan with letter AR engraved on it. While giving the ring, Rahul was dressed in Kerala outfit and proposed to Asin in Malayalam! The two had a private Christian wedding that was followed by a Hindu rituals ceremony in Delhi and a reception later took place in Mumbai. Asin has shifted base to Delhi after her marriage.

    Delhi connection: A first generation businessman, Rahul YU Televentures and is the co-founder and Managing Director of Micromax Informatics. Rahul brought a lavish three acre farmhouse at Mehrauli, near Delhi in 2011 and has been living there with his family. Even his office, Micromax Headquarters, is on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. With a bachelors’ degree in Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada and Mechanical Engineering from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Rahul has also attended the Owner/President Management (OPM) program at Harvard Business School.

    Kunal Kapoor and Naina Bachchan – February 9, 2015

    Jab they met: Kunal and Naina first met in Mumbai in 2012 while attending Karan Johar ’s fashion show where Natasha was accompanied by her first cousin, Amitabh Bachchan ’s daughter Shweta Bachchan Nanda, who introduced Naina to Kunal. That’s how their love story started. The two got engaged in 2014. The couple not only maintained a low profile while they were in a relationship and during their courtship, they even got married away from the limelight, in a private ceremony in Seychelles.

    Delhi connection: Daughter of Ajitabh Bachchan and Ramola Bachchan, Naina happens to be Amitabh Bachchan’s niece. Born and brought up in Delhi, Naina used to work as an investment banker in London. Apparently, it was her inclination to theatre, which made her quit her job and come back to Delhi. Besides doing various theatre plays and workshops, Naina is also a poet.
