Bollywood, being a major entertainment sector for Indian Cinema, produces a number of films every year. When we talk about these films, just the number does not make up everything but the quality adds a lot. Now, what is exactly that Bollywood movies lack is something to look upon.

Bollywood also features amazing movies that can be listed down but it still needs something more.

A looped up plotline/storyline and lacking content

The regularity or, to say, repetition of similar plotline in the Bollywood movies over the years does not invite the idea of creating something fresh that would give the audience more to look forward to. Concepts like damsel in distress; girl and boy meeting and falling in love, entry of villain and bit of a twist in plot does not do justice to how Bollywood could actually grow. With each SRK film having that romantic side to it even though the main plot might speak differently because of course, he is ‘King Khan’ Bollywood and Salman Khan having that swag in his attitude in almost each film.

    Need for Originality

Not only the similar plotline makes Bollywood lacking but also the originality of ideas is another major setback. Apart from biopics and few others, most of the Bollywood films are derived out of other existing movies or storylines. Like “Dhamaal” (2007) has similar plot story as “It’s a mad, mad, mad, mad world (1963). Peepli (Live) (2010) seems a lot like “Invitation to A Suicide” (2004).

This not just involves an undergrowth of innovations but also lowers international standing. So of course, a strong need for new, creative and original idea is felt.

    Hyped up superstitions

There is a substance that is missing in the films. Most of the time, Bollywood seems to be promoting a superstitious idea, say, making India known as “the country of snake charmers” with movies like "Jaani Dushman- Ek Anokhi Kahani”, “Nagin”, “Nagina” etc.

Films like “Ek Thi Daayan”, “Paheli” do their work in stirring up some other superstitious beliefs.

There seems to be a shortage of Sci-Fi i.e. science fiction films which actually sell the idea of practicality and not something to be worked up on. And then films like “Love Story 2050” even kills the idea of creating a Sci-Fi.

    Trending Style of films

Another pre-dominant phenomenon in Bollywood movies is the packaging of the movies with a bunch of songs which makes the storyline slow and sometimes also disrupts the smooth flow of the story.

A dance sequence out of nowhere or music used as diegetic sound also seems unrealistic most of the times when there is actually no need for it.

    Underrated talent

Also, it seems like there is a need to give more opportunity to the fresh faces. Although nowadays, new talents are given their chances in the upcoming movies all the big budget films cater to the pre-existing stardom with “the Khans” and “the Kapoors” ruling the industry. This makes it difficult for all to look at the other talents that may pull up the great story content even better. This is one of the reason due to which the audience is habitual of not accepting a new face.
